prising that renowned first Curtiss training camp where, in addition to learning to fly, he assisted in several historic developments which took place there at that time. These were the numerous float arrangements, the attachment of retractable wheels so that landings could be made on land or water, and a third wing (triplane) was added for increased lift, and daily testing. By March 15th all students were flying well, but since no official Aero Club observers were available none could take the pilot license test.
About this time St. Henry, Beachey, and Witmer joined the Curtiss Exhibition Team and signed up for exhibition work during the 1911 season. St. Henry continued his flying practice at San Diego until about mid-April then left for Canada to fill his first public exhibition dates there. A plane was to be shipped to him from the Curtiss factory at Hammondsport, New York for his use. Prior to his plane's arrival, St. Henry assisted High Robinson to make exhibition flights at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on April 28th.
When his plane arrived, it was a 40 H.P. 4 cyl. machine and this proved to be badly underpowered for exhibition work. With it, however, he attempted to fill an exhibition date at Saskatoon, Saskatehewan, Canada on May 19th. A strong wind was blowing and he stalled shortly after take-off and nosed in from about 60 ft. altitude. The plane was badly damaged but St. Henry escaped serious injury. Following the smashup, he announced that he had wired Hammondsport for a larger engine, would repair the damage, and still make his required flights.
On May 30th an 8 cyl. 70-80 H.P. Curtiss engine arrived and was installed, and he made a short successful test flight with the revised machine during the evening of June 2d. Word was sent out that he would fly the next day and a huge crowd assembled to witness a good extended flight to their complete satisfaction, on June 3d.
Following this St. Henry returned to the United States where he flew at Fargo, North Dakota on June 9th, Valley City, North Dakota on July 4th; Bottineau, North Dakota, July 13th, and back to Fargo on July 21st. While there he also flew cross-country to Kranges, North Dakota and return. He then returned to Canada where he
