SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION   1259

RESOLVED: That the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution has received with great regret the notice of the resignation on July 1, 1947, of Frederic A. Delano, as a Regent of this Institution, and

That the Board hereby records its deep appreciation of the long and unselfish service which Mr. Delano has given to the Institution for nearly a quarter century as a Regent, and as Chairman of its Executive Committee, and

That the Board hereby extends to Mr. Delano its hearty good wishes for his health and happiness in the years ahead and its felicitations on the accomplishments of a long and fruitful life.

ANNUAL REPORT OF THE SECRETARY

The Secretary submitted his Annual Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1947, including the Financial Report of the Executive Committee, in printed form, stating that copies were before the Regents at the meeting.

On motion, the report was accepted.

The Annual Report of the United States National Museum was also laid before the members of the meeting.

RESOLUTION RELATIVE TO INCOME AND EXPENDITURE

Mr. Fleming, Chairman of the Executive Committee, submitted the following resolution, which, on motion was adopted:

RESOLVED: That the income of the Institution for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1949, be appropriated for the service of the Institution, to be expended by the Secretary, with the advice of the Executive Committee, with full discretion on the part of the Secretary as to items.

ELECTION OF A MEMBER OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The Secretary stated that through the retirement of Regent Frederic A.
