Estimate for 1950 | $2,300,000
Total to be available for 1949 (including supplemental) | $2,257,500
Increase for 1950 | $42,500

Increase estimated for 1950 is distributed as follows:

[[2 Column table]]
Additional for increased pay, Public Law 900 (to put pay act on full year basis) | $6,000
In-grade promotions ($52,663 required, leaving deficit of $40,053) | 12,610
Increased cost of utilities (electricity) | 3,410
Rent (National Air Museum storage at Park Ridge) | 20,480
Total | $42,500|

This increase has been approved by The President only because of higher operating costs.

Additional operating funds from Federal Appropriations for 1949:

Working Funds
[[2 column table]]
River Valley Surveys in archeological and paleontological work (Transfer from Department of the Interior) | $89,100|
Carried over from previous years | 30,992|
Total | $120,092|

Natural History Survey at Bikini Atoll (Transfer from Navy Department) | $10,750.52

Transfer from State Department, Institute of Social Anthropology | $102,700

Under the present estimates for 1950, we will have to absorb additional personnel costs of $55,000, including $40,000 for in-grade promotions and $15,000 for terminal leave, for which no funds are available. This will force a reduction in staff of 18 positions.
