APPOINTMENT OF A CHAIRMAN PROTEM

As there was a session of the Supreme Court at noon, the Chief Justice stated that it was necessary for him to leave.  Before withdrawing, the Chancellor assured the Board of his enthusiastic interest and support, and hoped that it would be possible for him to devote more of his time to the work of the Institution.

On motion, Mr. Clarence Cannon became temporary chairman for the remainder of the meeting.

FURTHER GIFT FROM MR. JOHN A. ROEBLING

During the past year Mr. John A. Roebling has continued his generous support toward the Institution's researches in radiation under the Astrophysical Observatory to the extent of $30,000, these funds being devoted to work in astrophysics.

The following resolution was voted unanimously:

RESOLVED: That the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution again extends its thanks to Mr. John A. Roebling for his contribution of $30,000 to the Astrophysical Observatory of the Institution.

This generous assistance, which has continued for many years, has been of major importance in these scientific investigations.

TELLURIDE ASSOCIATION

The Secretary on behalf of the Executive Committee presented a statement relative to Telluride Assocation, an educational organisation, that had been brought to attention recently.  Telluride Association as at present constituted is the outgrowth of interest on the part of Mr. L. C. Nunn, now deceased, who made a considerable fortune in mining in Colorado, and in hydro-electric power developments in several of the Rocky Mountain states.
