SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION 1330

The executors inform us that the probable value of the estate should be between $45,000 and $50,000.

Mrs. Laura Dreyfus-Barney of Washington has presented to the Institution her mother's collection of paintings together with the works of other artists to form a loan collection, comprising some 278 works of art. With this she has given the sum of $15,000 which she will increase in the next three years to a total of $30,000 to establish a fund in her mother's name to be known as the Alice Pike Barney Memorial Fund, the income to be used in the National Collection of Fine Arts under the Smithsonian, for maintaining and increasing the loan collection in question, and for the encouragement of American artistic endeavor. As it will be a year or more before income from the new fund is received, Mrs. Barney has also given the Institution $1500 additional to be used for current expenditures under the Fund.
