SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION 1336

The Secretary stated further that Congressman Rankin had requested by telephone data to cover an addition of $100,000 to the appropriation for 1952 that he planned to submit to the House, for the study of the development of electricity from solar energy, under researches that have been made in the Astrophysical Observatory.

CODIFICATION OF TITLE 20 OF THE UNITED STATES CODE

The Secretary called to attention a communication just received from the Chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary of the House of Representatives forwarding copies of H.R. 3757, a bill to revise, codify, and enact into law Title 20 of the United States Code entitled "Education."

Title 20 in question covers the legal authorities under which the Smithsonian Institution and its branches now operate.

The proposed bill was being given careful scrutiny and would be studied in full detail to insure that there was no infringement on present authorizations in the revision as proposed.
