During the past season, Mendel L. Peterson of the Department of History, U. S. National Museum, had part in an interesting under water exploration in the Florida Keys covering an ancient wreck of an English vessel. Mr. Link of Link Aviation who was a member of the party has provided $3,000 to cover further research and investigation in this matter. 

These are the important contributions of the year. 

ANNUAL REPORT OF THE SMITHSONIAN ART COMMISSION

The twenty-ninth Annual Meeting of the Smithsonian Art Commission was held on December 4, 1951. Eleven members were present and, acting as the advisory committee on the acceptance of works of art which had been offered to the National Collection of Fine Arts since the last meeting, recommended the following works for acceptance: 

Oil painting, Nancy, by George De Forest Brush, a purchase of the Ranger Fund. 

Oil painting, The Figurine, by William M. Paxton, a purchase of the Ranger Fund. 

Two sculptures, Baboon in sandstone, and Antelope in black Belgian marble, by Bessie S. Callender (1889-1951), offered by her husband, Harold Callender. 

Three pieces of modern glass offered by Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Smith, Jr. 

Five prize winning pieces from the Second Annual Exhibition of Ceramic Art, held by The Kiln Club, at the Smithsonian Institution, August 30 to September 23, 1951, offered by The Kiln Club. 

Miniature, water color on ivory, The Last Earl of Glencairn, by an undetermined artist, offered by William Mouat Hannay. 

On motion the recommendations were approved. 

The Commission also voted to recommend to the Board of Regents the re-election for the usual four-year period the following members whose terms expired in 1951:
