SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION 1351

RESOLVED: That the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution hereby approves the recommendation of the Smithsonian Art Commission that Walter Hancock be appointed to succeed James E. Fraser. 

On motion the resolution was adopted. 

REPORT OF THE SPECIAL COMMITTEE RELATIVE TO RETIREMENT PROVISIONS FOR DR. WETMORE

Mr. Fleming on behalf of the Special Committee of the Board of Regents, submitted the following resolution, which on motion was adopted: 

RESOLVED: That as and when Dr. Alexander Wetmore retires as Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution and his successor has been duly selected and qualified, the following action becomes effective: 
RESOLVED: That owing to Dr. Wetmore's long and distinguished service to the Smithsonian Institution, and in keeping with precedent, he will receive on his retirement from the Secretaryship: (1) a pension of $4,000 annually which will be in addition to the pension Dr. Wetmore has paid for and will receive from the U. S. Civil Service Retirement System; and (2) an annual research grant of $6,000 from the private funds of the Institution with the understanding that any parts of the annual grant not utilized in the current year will be accumulated and will remain available to him for use in the succeeding year or years. This research grant will be subject to review and approval by the Board of Regents annually. 

On motion this resolution was adopted.
