SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION   1372

RESOLVED: That as a contribution to the observance of the 50th Anniversary of powered flight and for the protection and exhibition of the irreplaceable historic aeronautical collections now in the custody of the Smithsonian, the Institution should do all within its power to advance the construction of the National Air Museum building, at least to the extent of procuring a site for the Museum. If no suitable site is available on land now owned by the Federal Government, a supplemental appropriation should be requested for the purchase of a site, satisfactory both as to size and location.

A motion was approved requesting the Chancellor, if he considered it wise and appropriate to do so, to express, formally or informally to the Members of Congress the conviction of the Regents that some of the obligations which are placed upon the Regents by statute, especially in connection with the National Air Museum, cannot now be carried out because of lack of funds.
