VOTED that the Board of Regents extends its best wishes for a speedy recovery to Justice Roberts.

MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING

The Secretary stated that minutes of the last Annual Meeting held January 15, 1954 had been circulated among the members of the Board. 

On motion the minutes were approved, as circulated.

ANNUAL REPORT OF THE SECRETARY

The Secretary submitted the Annual Report of the Secretary for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1954, including the Financial Report of the Executive Committee of the Board of Regents, in printed form, stating that copies were before the Regents at the meeting. On motion duly made, seconded and carried, it was

VOTED that the Report of the Secretary as printed in the Annual Report of the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution for 1954 be accepted as presented.

REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Mr. Robert V. Fleming, Chairman of the Executive Committee, before presenting his report referred to the fact that the Secretary had just been appointed by President Eisenhower as a member of the Board of Visitors at the Unites States Military Academy at West Point.

Mr. Fleming then presented the following report:

The customary detailed report of the Executive Committee for the last fiscal year which ended June 30, 1954, with the statement for public information as to investments and income is included in the printed report of the Secretary of the Institution, which is on the table.

The following matters, supplemental to this report, cover the first half of the present fiscal year.

Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Company, a nationally known firm of auditors, made the annual audit of the Institution’s accounts. Their report is part of the printed statement to which reference has just been made. The complete statement of the auditors is on the table for examination.
