Senator Anderson and Senator Saltonstall spoke very highly in favor of Mr. Brown.  It was moved that the report of the Executive Committee in regard to the nomination of Mr. Brown be accepted, and it was

VOTED to have the Secretary prepare a draft of a Joint Resolution concerning Mr. Brown who was unanimously recommended for election as a Citizen Regent, and that this draft be presented to the Congress for consideration.

ANNUAL REPORT OF THE SECRETARY

The Secretary submitted his annual report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1956, including the Financial Report of the Executive Committee, in printed form, together with the 1956 Annual Report of The United States National Museum. Copies of these two reports were on the table.

On motion, the report of the Secretary was accepted.

REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Dr. Robert V. Fleming, Chairman of the Executive Committee, presented the following report:
The detailed report of the actions of the Executive Committee for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1956 with a specific statement concerning the investments and the income of the private funds of the Smithsonian Institution is before you on the table as printed in the Report of the Secretary of the Institution.

Because of my office as Chairman of the Executive Committee I have been in regular communication with the Secretary in connection with the transactions involved in the current business of the Institution.

The following matters supplemental to the printed report and especially related to the first half of the present fiscal year may be mentioned at this time. 

In compliance with the vote of the Board of Regents at its last annual meeting Regent Caryl P. Haskins has become a member of the Executive Committee of the Board. Since his election Dr. Haskins has participated in an active way in the management of the financial and other affairs which are assigned to the Executive Committee.

Following the vote of the Board of Regents at its annual meeting held on Friday, January 13, 1956, the firm of McKim, Mead & White was appointed
