The Vice President regretted that because of a long-standing commitment he was unable to be present. Dr. Arthur H. Compton was unable to attend because weather conditions in St. Louis prevented his flying.

MINUTES OF PREVIOUS ANNUAL MEETING

The Secretary stated that the minutes of the Annual Meeting held January 16, 1959 had been mailed to be the members of the Board. On motion by Senator Fulbright, seconded by Dr. Fleming, and carried it was

VOTED that the Board of Regents approves the minutes of the meeting of January 16, 1959, as submitted to the members by mail.

WELCOME TO NEW MEMBER

On February 5, 1959 the Vice President appointed Senator J. W. Fulbright to fill the vacancy of the Board caused by the retirement of Senator H. Alexander Smith. Senator Fulbright was welcomed to the Board, and hope was expressed that he would enjoy a long service as a Regent.

REAPPOINTMENT OF MEMBER

The term of Dr. Robert V. Fleming, Citizen Regent from the District of Columbia, was continued by Joint Resolution of Congress on March 25, 1959, for another six years. Dr. Fleming was first appointed on July 26, 1947. The Chancellor stated that the Board was happy to have the distinguished Chairman of the Executive Committee again appointed.
