VOTED that the Board of Regents accepts the Report of the Secretary as printed in the Annual Report of the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution for 1959 as distributed on December 31, 1959.

REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Dr. Robert V. Fleming, Chairman of the Executive Committee, read his report aloud. Upon reaching the section dealing with the continuation of the Rock Creek and the Potomac Parkway through the National Zoological Parkway, the Chairman asked the Secretary to explain in detail the background leading up to the plan for this parkway and its effect upon the National Zoological Park. On motion by Mr. Cannon, who stated that too much could not be said in appreciation of the service that the Chairman of the Executive Committee had rendered in the present critical and crucial times, seconded by Dr. Greenewalt, and carried it was

VOTED that the Board of Regents approves the Report of the Executive Committee as presented, directs that it be included in the minutes of the present meeting and that the present Chairman be asked to continue to serve as Chairman of the Committee.

The report is as follows:

The Annual Report of the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1959, which is before you, includes a report of the actions of the Executive Committee during that year. This formal report deals with the operation of the Smithsonian Institution and the investments and income of the private funds of the Institution from July 1, 1958 to June 30, 1959. 

As has been customary for a number of years, I am glad at this time to review certain matters that are supplemental to this report and to comment upon activities that have taken place during the first half of the present fiscal year, that is, since July 1, 1959.
