sculpture at this time, and that the question of providing sculpture be deferred until a future meeting of the Board.  On motion made by Dr. Brown, seconded by Dr. Fleming, and carried it was unanimously

VOTED that the Board of Regents concurs with the vote of the Executive Committee that available money in the original appropriation be used to provide features that are essential for the effective functioning of the new building but that as the building nears completion, the Secretary may report to the Board again concerning the possibility that some funds may be available for sculpture.

REPORT ON ADDITIONS TO THE NATURAL HISTORY BUILDING

The Secretary reported that the Senate and the House of Representatives had approved an appropriation of $13,500,000 for the construction of the east wing and for certain required renovation of the central portion of the main structure of the Natural History Building.

REPORT ON STUDY OF THE OLD PATENT OFFICE BUILDING IN CONNECTION WITH ITS USE FOR THE NATIONAL COLLECTION OF FINE ARTS AND FOR THE NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY

The Secretary reviewed the events that had taken place in connection with this matter since 1958 when Senator Anderson introduced a bill that became P. L. 357.

INSTALLATION OF ACTING CHAIRMAN

The Chancellor announced that he would have to be excused, but that after attending a brief meeting he would return.  He relinquished the chair to Dr. Robert V. Fleming, Chairman of the Executive Committee at 5:50 p.m. At this time Mr. Bradley returned.
