BRIEF REPORT ON THE NATIONAL CULTURAL CENTER

Senator Fulbright stated that the latest development was the planning of an important Washington "kick off" dinner at the end of the month. The total fund raising project might take longer than anticipated as the goal is an amount of $70,000,000 as the functions of the Center include many other activities in addition to an opera house and hall for symphony concerts. Senator Fulbright pointed out that the Center will serve many of the major official ceremonial functions of the Government. The difficulties of raising the amount of funds required were discussed.

REPLACEMENT OF SMITHSON MEMORIAL TABLET IN GENOA

The Secretary explained that this had been destroyed in World War II, and that funds are available that can be used to replace it. On motion by Senator Fulbright, seconded by Dr. Brown, and carried it was:

VOTED that the Secretary is authorized to have prepared and installed a replacement of the Smithson memorial tablet in the Church of the Holy Ghost in Genoa, the former tablet having been destroyed during World War II.

SECRETARY CARMICHAEL'S PORTRAIT

On motion by Dr. Brown, duly seconded and carried it was:

VOTED that the Executive Committee proceed with the necessary arrangements to see that a portrait of the present Secretary of the Smithsonian is executed. 

THE REAPPOINTMENT OF DR. JEROME HUNSAKER

The Secretary reported that the six-year term of Dr. Jerome C. Hunsaker would expire June 3, 1961. On motion by Senator Fulbright, seconded by Dr. Brown, and carried it was:
