SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION 1530

SPONSORED BY INDUSTRIAL CORPORATIONS

It had been proposed that funds be solicited from the Ford Foundation and others to maintain collections in the Smithsonian of industrial and business art. This proposal had been referred to the Smithsonian Art Commission, which was meeting at the time the proposal was made. The Commission did not object to the collection of such industrial-sponsored art pictures, but counseled care in selecting the works to be exhibited. It was the sense of the meeting that in view of all the other activities of the Smithsonian no positive action should be taken to approve this proposed new undertaking. On motion by Mr. Cannon, seconded by Dr. Greenewalt, it was

VOTED that the proposal be tabled.
