MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL MEETING JANUARY 13, 1961

On motion by Dr. Fleming, seconded by Dr. Brown, and carried it was

VOTED that the minutes of the meeting of the Board of Regents of January 13, 1961, as circulated, be approved.

MEMBERSHIP ON THE BOARD OF REGENTS

The Secretary reported that the only new member of the Board of Regents is the Vice President, Honorable Lyndon B. Johnson. Two Regents from the Senate, Honorable Clinton P. Anderson and Honorable Leverett Saltonstall, had been reappointed January 20, 1961, and three Regents from the House of Representatives, Honorable Frank T. Bow, Honorable Overton Brooks, and Honorable Clarence Cannon, on March 7, 1961. Dr. Jerome C. Hunsaker was reappointed as a Regent on March 29, 1961.

QUESTION OF THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION'S RELATIONSHIP TO THE FINANCING OF THE NATIONAL ZOOLOGICAL PARK

The Secretary referred to the direction of the Regents at the meeting on January 13, 1961 that he prepare plans and estimates necessary to develop a program of capital improvements at the National Zoological Park. He stated that in compliance with this direction the report, dated May, 1961, on the National Zoological Park had been circulated to the Regents prior to the meeting.

There was discussion of the pending legislation (S. 1325) introduced by Senator Francis Case "To transfer administrative control and jurisdiction over the National Zoological Park to the Department of the Interior."
