VOTED that the Report of the Chairman of the Executive Committee, as presented, be approved.

REPORT ON PROPOSED LEGISLATION CONCERNING THE NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY

The Secretary referred to the various bills to establish a National Portrait Gallery as a bureau in the Smithsonian Institution, particularly S. 1057, introduced on February 24, 1961 by Senator Anderson with Senator Saltonstall as co-sponsor, and H.R. 5739, introduced on March 21, 1961 by Mr. Bow. The Secretary reported that these bills are in committee, respectively the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration and the House Committee on House Administration. After discussion, on motion by Dr. Brown, seconded by Dr. Fleming, and carried it was

VOTED that the Board of Regents requests its Congressional members to take the necessary action to effect the passage of S. 1057 or H.R. 5739.

The Secretary referred to the various bills to establish a National Armed Forces Museum Advisory Board in the Smithsonian Institution, particularly S. 1058, introduced on February 24, 1961 by Senator Anderson on behalf of himself and Senator Saltonstall; H.R. 4659, introduced on February 21, 1961 by Mr. Cannon; and H.R. 5740, introduced on March 21, 1961 by Mr. Bow. The Secretary reported that these bills are in committee, respectively the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration and the House Committee on House Administration. On motion by Dr. Brown, seconded by Dr. Compton, and carried it was
