The members of the Board expressed deep regret at the death of the Honorable Overton Brooks. On motion by Senator Saltonstall, seconded by Dr. Compton, and carried it was

VOTED that the above resolutions be recorded in the minutes and a copy be sent to Mrs. Brooks.

WELCOME TO NEW MEMBER

On January 15, 1962 the Speaker of the House of Representatives appointed Representative Michael J. Kirwan of Ohio to succeed Representative Overton Brooks, deceased, as a Regent. Mr. Kirwan was welcomed by the Board, and the hope was expressed that he would serve long and happily.

The Honorable Lyndon B. Johnson was also welcomed to the meeting. The Chancellor expressed his pleasure and stated that the Regents were especially honored by the presence of the Vice President of the United States at the meeting.

REAPPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS

The Secretary reported that the six-year terms of Dr. Crawford H. Greenewalt and Dr. Caryl P. Haskins would expire April 6, 1962. On motion by Dr. Compton, seconded by Dr. Brown, and carried it was

VOTED to instruct the Secretary to request members of the Board of Regents in the Senate and in the House of Representatives to introduce Joint Resolutions to reappoint Dr. Crawford H. Greenewalt and Dr. Caryl P. Haskins for another six-year term as members of the Board of Regents.

ANNUAL REPORT OF THE SECRETARY

The Secretary submitted his annual report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1961, including the Financial Report of the Executive Committee, in printed form. Copies of this report were on the table. On motion by Dr. Haskins, seconded by Dr. Hunsaker, and carried it was

VOTED that the Board of Regents accepts the Report of the Secretary for 1961 as distributed on January 9, 1962.
