VOTED further, that the Chairman of the Regents Committee on the National Portrait Gallery shall designate the terms of the appointees.

REPORT OF NATIONAL ARMED FORCES MUSEUM ADVISORY BOARD

Dr. Brown reported that the first meeting of the National Armed Force Museum Advisory Board had been held on November 14, 1962, and that he had the honor of being elected Chairman. Dr. Brown stated he proposed to call a meeting of the Board in the near future to consider the concept of the Museum and possible sites.

REPORT ON PLAN FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE NATIONAL ZOOLOGICAL PARK

The Secretary reported that the Congress had appropriated $1,275,000 for 1963 for the first step of the ten-year improvement program. This program will allow the National Zoological Park to take its place among the great zoos of the country and will be accomplished by stages so that visitors may continue to come to the Zoo without general disruption.

REPORT OF SPECIAL COMMITTEE TO MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A SUCCESSOR TO L. CARMICHAEL

The Secretary, the Assistant Secretary and the two secretaries taking the minutes withdrew from the meeting.

An executive session was held by the Regents from 11:50 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Dr. Haskins, Chairman of the Committee, has supplied the following statement concerning the executive session:

The Chancellor called on Dr. Haskins, Chairman of the Special Committee on Succession, for a report of his Committee. Dr. Haskins stated that, since the establishment of the Committee it had been engaged in an active survey of possible candidates for the succession of the Secretaryship, and that these had been very fully discussed at the meeting of the Committee which had taken place on the previous day. The Committee did not wish to recommend a specific name at present, but it hoped to do so shortly.
