SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION 

MINUTES OF THE MAY 15, 1963 MEETING

The Secretary stated that the minutes of the meeting had been mailed to the members of the Board. On motion by Dr. Hunsaker, seconded by Senator Saltonstall, and carried it was 

VOTED that the minutes of the May 15, 1963 meeting, as previously circulated, be approved.

ANNUAL REPORT OF THE SECRETARY

The Secretary submitted his annual report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1963, including the Financial Report of the Executive Committee, in printed form. Copies of this report were on the table and had been distributed to the members of the Board on January 13, 1964. On motion by Dr. Greenewalt, seconded by Dr. Brown, and carried it was 

VOTED that the Board of Regents approves the Report of the Secretary for 1963 as distributed on January 13, 1964.

REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Dr. Fleming read his report aloud and a copy of his report was before each member. He mentioned that this report did not state the general feeling of many people that if a tax cut is not passed, there could be a sag. 

At 9:50 a.m. Mr. Bradley withdrew from the room as Dr. Fleming had reached the part of the Report dealing with the Vote of the Executive Committee concerning his compensation. Dr. Fleming stated he had had many contacts with Mr. Bradley and he would be of inestimable value to Dr. Ripley. Dr. Fleming further stated that Mr. Bradley could command a higher salary, and he had had offers. On motion by Dr. Hunsaker, seconded by Dr. Brown, and carried it was 

VOTED that the Board of Regents approves the recommendation of the Executive Committee to transfer Mr. Bradley from the public funds roll to the private roll and that his salary be at the rate of $25,000 a year. It was further VOTED that in addition to his salary, the regular retirement, insurance, and other benefits provided for other comparable, nonpublic roll employees of the Smithsonian be provided.
