New-York, le July 29th 1867

Maj. General O. O. Howard
Commissioner of Freedmens Bureau

General

When I advised you of the reserve I had made in selling my property, of the timber furnished by the administration, I forgot to tell you that this reserve has been made by a letter written by Totten Esq. lawyer 5th St. Law building. I think necessary to give you this information, for the case likely, of some one who would contest it, in order not to return to administration what is its own.

I remain, in the mean time
