December 8

Dear folks,

Nelson sends me a cut from the "Washington Post" describing the new radio station, WC.FM. Sounds enterprising, as if television had not all the prospects.

Speaking of transportation, I wish such a thing would happen for D.C.: to Chicago has a plane been chartered for Howard and Radcliffe at coach rates!

Hope the measles does not provide an opportunity to "throw all her books out the window."

Had the most wonderful time yesterday. In the afternoon there was the Hist-Lit oral in Herodotus: about 6 boys and 4 girls [[strikethrough]] in deep lea [[/strikethrough]] & two prime movers (Prof Perkins (Hist) & an assistant) in deep leather chairs in Lowell House. Stimulating; and several boys: 2: had really fine [[strikethrough]] theses [[/strikethrough]] generalizations to offer. the girls covering spots and examples. In the evening I went to "The Way of the World" by Congrève, a Restoration Drama, by Idler (one bought tickets at the beginning of the year): really very well done & extremely funny, very good character roles all & not a farce but a real comedy. I know the girl in one of the leading roles: Barbara Tuttle; she used characteristic enthusiasm & her own personality so well fitted into the role of a [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] witty yet very warm-hearted charmer! And the accompanying music was composed by our young [[strikethrough]] director [[/strikethrough]] conductor Van Slyck: very fine also, full of life.

Shall perhaps go out to Stoughton Thur (16) afternoon, if not earlier. Wed I may take settlement house children [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] from a Christmas party; at any rate, there is a play-reading that afternoon. Not sure if will come home Friday yet or not.

Love,
Doris
