MOCR DE-BRIEF Frist = 4 items that followed through flight = FES, APU, 566 H[[subscript]]2[[/subscript]]O, FUEL CELL APU •WB 3 freeze-up. (also froze during STS-1 - almost didn't load H[[subscript]]2[[/subscript]]O for STS-2) 7-8 min, all 3 froze ... 1+2 thawed - no oil T↑, 3 stayed frozen. Oil T ↑ Shut down APU 3 ~1 min 20 sec early [WB3 thawed by IOS, known good for entry] (crew thought APU was lost) [[left margin]] TRAINING [[left margin]] (never saw this failure in training) • Fu Pump Vlv cooling failure: sys A. APU 1 not getting adequate cooling; switched to B, it didn't work either. Post-flight data = initially, some cooling; [[symbols > over top of the ~]] 1 hr later, got cooling, but T peak had long since passed. (T hit ~250° F) ↑[[↑pointing at 250°]] bubbles Suspect vlvs corroded betw flights. Testing betw STS-1 & -2 showed APU was safe to start, as long T < 200° at time of start. (flight rules change from "as written for STS-2") ⇒ ∴ not a problem for nominal entry, but would be a problem for AOA • did see evidence of oil filter clogging in APU 1 (post-flight data)..... cleared up O.K.
