30 AUG HUGHES S/C people: JACK JURACO (CONSTRAINTS) BILL GRAYER (PALAPA) [[image]] PKM 10 1/2 hr orbit stay in this orbit until phasing of E[[circled]] is correct (apogee occurs ~ over desired longitude) 1. PKM occurs 45 min after deploy from orbiter 2. schedule deploy time (∴PKM) such that spacecraft will not have to stay in transfer orbit too long waiting for phasing (~4 orbits desired for tracking....but S/C not designed to operate optimally in this config [[image]] (& not "deployed" until geosync) 3. during transfer orbit, S/C is spinning, but not "deployed". Want sun ~directly onto solar cells ± ~23° [[image]] Reason is thermal: belly-band radiator is not exposed, ∴ cooling is inefficient. Sun coming in through top heats spacecraft -- heat can't be rejected.
