L-0: H20 line broke 
lots of ice on facility. Concern: damage to TPS on launch. Discussion w/ RI - no Thiokol concern - decision to go, but send out ice team at T-20.

• what are flt rules, LCC involving low temperature? Do we have any constraints on having an orbiter on the pad in low T?

Lovingood - MSFC: 
SRB's - steel case. Went to lt wt on STS-6 (cases ~6% thinner) designed for use with high performance motors on STS-8. Filament wound are graphite epoxy, design for 1st VBG flight (may not be reusable)
