April 13

Dear folks,

Apparently ants can eat tobacco: or the thing was crushed over their hole. It's the summeriest day yet. The crab apples are almost out. Boys are occasionally going without ties in the yard, and even standing around outside. Bill would be admitting that it might be considered a good day and enjoying it far more than admitted. He's with his grandmother now. [[strikethrough]] She got [[/strikethrough]] A lot of his relatives have come to see him with her, he being an important coming man to them. He didn't grow up with her but with his father & stepmother.

It seems unlikely to fruit, but Maria - Hope & I may get accepted at the Waterville Inn or The Wentworth-by-the-Sea in our hotel applications. I have been accepted at many places but shall go nowhere without them. Another possibility is trying to tutor someone, to see how teaching could be. Another [[strikethrough]] necessity [[/strikethrough]] thing I should do is to get a start on my thesis, which may be decided on by summer. Also to read & plan. [[strikethrough]] Can't p [[/strikethrough]] I do want to be with you. But this plan of life requires determined action towards aims, enthusiasm tried in fields. The newspaper is out. Teaching [[strikethrough]] as [[/strikethrough]] (in colleges) [[strikethrough]] as a profession [[/strikethrough]] seems likeliest. Do see what possibilities for instructorship there are in the area as soon as you can. Money for grad school may be best got away. [[strikethrough]] Working with my friends would better prepare me [[/strikethrough]] the 2 hotels named are known to treat you well ([[strikethrough]] as [[/strikethrough]] many are unreliable); & tutor jobs I shall look into today. That would be the best atmosphere for a thesis.

Love,
Doris
