March 18

Dear folks,

There is very little to write today.

How did Dad get his cold, if he is so healthy?

Are birds building around yet?

We went through the whole mass last night. I had slept all afternoon after too strenuous studying the day & night before; so started fresh & with much gusto; [[strikethrough]] unt [[/strikethrough]] but when it was over (takes about 2 1/2 - 3 hours), whew! There is only about 1 piece I don't know too well. This is what the whole year has been for, it is the greatest joy! I wish we could form an Alumni of Bach Association to sing it after the concert. I'd like to buy the score very much; & shall; all the rest was for free. Shan't be in choral next year: we sing Berlioz Mass; he is a hopeless Romantic, [[strikethrough]] when [[/strikethrough]] uses [[strikethrough]] 4 [[/strikethrough]] 10 pianos & several brass bands. That is irony -- there'll be a small group attracted to him, while the Mass which is ideally done by 80 people, drew 350!

Do not worry about my "affair". My only concern is [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] not to get a persecution complex from him when I am feeling low; which is hard [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] not to get from a fly on my nose then; & he is considerably more critical than the [[strikethrough]] other [[/strikethrough]] fly. But he tries to help me to stand alone. [[strikethrough]] The [[/strikethrough]] Another main difficulty is that, if the first is avoided (as I learn feminine arts to avoid it), [[strikethrough]] we [[/strikethrough]] I will be so comfortable as not to seek other men when I should. That is really all there is to it. Passion etc is only a concern insomuch as I do more than I want: want means than will bring satisfaction: which is conditioned by self respect & his respect: which factors it is really not difficult to keep aware of, as he is not one to whisper sweet things [[strikethrough]] th [[/strikethrough]] he does not mean.
