January 8

1978 - Sunday - 34° at 7:30 - cloudy, light rain most of day. Quiet morning - doing hobbies. 
After lunch and nap to Kane's Funeral Home. Vivien [[H?]]'s mother died Friday midnight.
Wes returned to his shop. I made Potato Puffs as practice for next Saturday's dinner 
Reception poor for I Claudius at 9 pm account rain

1979 - Monday - 44° at 6 AM - still raining - continued until noon - temperature dropped during day - 20° at bedtime. 
I went to Helene Merrick's for Sweepstakes Meeting at 10 o'clock- home at one for lunch and nap. I wrote Sweepstakes sheets - Wes worked in shop.

1980 - Tuesday - 30 degrees at 6 AM. Beautiful winter day 7:20-4:45 Sun. I picked up Helen Ross Terry Keller and Lucienne Hartcorn and we went to May Coat Co. in New Haven - I bought bluejeans - Pappagallo - Bridgeport - nothing - lunch at Brocks Route 7. Home at 4 pm. Wes had worked in shop - brought up wood.
Kelly staying with Eileen - goes to NYC during day
Pair mallards off and on - Pike, but not White Duck - they were chased on [[?]] yesterday  by Ghee's sat Smokey. 

1981 - Thursday - 7 degrees at 6 AM. Sun 7:20-4:46 Cold windy, beautiful day - high was 20 degrees at noon. Hobbies first - then to Ridgefield - paid taxes on Bogus property - to Brunetti's, Stop & Shop & Liquor. Home for late lunch - nap - short time at hobbies Missed Thomas Refuse pickup - never know when he will come - we were evidently at Mass

1982 - Friday - 20 degrees at 6:30. Fair. Sun 7:20 - 4:45 Sunny cold day - Put plants in greenhouse for the day. Started putting away Christmas decorations. Greens very dry. To Sylvia Barry's sale - bought tweed jacket and grey blouse. Country Design ladies Mrs Sigg and Mrs Byrne delivered the two Bob Coller chairs recovered in flamestitch.- 
Wes had shop time. I made cookies for tomorrow's St Elizabeth Seton 6th Annual Supper - and lamb stew.

January 9

1978 - Monday - 56 degrees at 6 AM - Very windy - high winds and rain all night - flood. To 7:30 Mass - road flooding Sun 7 20 - 4 46

I went to Community Center for meeting of Plant Sale Committee. I'm on the Staging  section. Shopped at Brunetti after to order meat for Saturday. Home at 12:30. Wes had picked up all branches down in the wind. Rain turned to snow flurries at noon. Electricity off 10 min. about 8 pm.

1979 - Saturday - 16 degrees at 6 :40. Slept an hour later - felt good. Fair - Frozen ground again - sheets of ice up on pond banks account yesterday's high water.
Sun 720/446. Errands - to Calico Corners Route 7 for Secretary pillow backing - left photo of family at Frame Shop - bought steak & sandwiches at Brunetti's - Thistle Seed & Squirrel Trap at Young's - left Garden Club material at Helene Merrick & Sally Moss - Pound Ridge Antique Shop closed - ate sandwih in Park - Home for nap & hobbies - Cold, beautiful day

1980 - Wednesday - 20 degrees at 6 AM - Cloudy, damp day felt like snow until evening, when it cleared.
Prepared for Garden Board meeting at 10 - picked up Helen - dropped off plants and old Horticulture magazines at Greenhouse Shopped Brunetti's for chicken and Woolworth's for paper doilies Home for lunch. Few mallards fly in for corn - so do white domestics. Cooked for Sunday's lunch.

1981 - Friday - 15 degrees below at 6 AM - rose to 20 degrees above in afternoon - was 14 degrees at bedtime. Fair luckily - Laundry drain didn't freeze - did wash - cleaned half of house - made pot roast. Wes started car - couldn't start tractor - took battery to be charged. Out to feed ducks - birds - lots of them around. Barry [[Freed?]] phoned. The Freemans returned from vacation to find pipes frozen in house. We told him we'd wait until the 16th for [[?]] on buying house

1982 - Saturday - 24 degrees at 6:30 - Sun 7:20-4:46 Cloudy - cold - Kept plants in kitchen - Greenhouse temperature never over 32 degrees - snow flurries about 1 1/2 inches at night. Put away inside Christmas decorations. Finished wall garden plan - checking the placement of some plants outside. Shop work for Wes. I worked on House Construction Sales Tax. To McKeon's for drink at 5 pm, then on to church for the annual supper - McKeons, Mulligans, Rosses, [[?]] and [[?]] at our table
