February 27

1978 - Monday - 10° at 6 AM - Fair and cold.  Just 32° as high - Still have a lot of icicles forming on house front. To 7.30 Mass. I went to Greenhouse from 9:15/12 o'clock. Wes had cleaned garage. To Danbury Wilton Bootery. Wes bought tan shoes and I black Florsheims. Dropped papers & magazines at Mary Brooks. Started stripping livingroom walls for painting.

1979 - Tuesday - 30° at 6 AM - Cloudy - Snow flurries and some sleet. Decided to go to New Canaan anyway - trees in Ridgefield and Vista very iced - roads okay. Returned fabric and wallpaper samples to Country Design - bought bananas at Vista - Pinchbeck for saucer for sitting rabbit. Home for Mardi Gra cocktail and lunch. Hobbies in afternoon. Tax reports received from George Krawcheck.

1980 - Wednesday - Departure day from Treasure Cay. Up at six - breakfast - Wes has to remind taxi - left 8:20 for a very fast ride to Marsh Harbor - learned Mackey now left from Treasure Cay. Arrived Ft Lauderdale 11 o'clock. Cleared Customs help from young Mackey representative. Confirmed 3:15 National flight from Palm Beach (no earlier flight) 2 pm Mackey to Palm Beach - National flight on time at La Guardia 5:45 - (suitcases safely transferred by Mackey)  Conn. Limousine at 7:20 - reached Ethan Allan 8:45 - taxi came at 9 - home 9:15. Catherine Ghee had left casserole & breakfast things. Eileen said Heather died Monday.

1981 - Friday - 37° at 6:30. Clear, windy
Hobby hour. Looked up record of purchase of refrig. freezer and dishwasher. Turned out to be 1975 - in process tore up years of old checks. After lunch to bank & Basics - then to Bogus property. Wes raked chips - I scraped Gypsy Moths into creosote bucket and cleared around beech and hemlock. Decided to pile wood at South end if can get tractor in.

1982 - Saturday - 18° at 6:30. Clear. Sun over the hill at 7 o'clock. Sunny morning but cloudy in afternoon - high was 42°
Cleaned and treated Solar Room Floor.
Cleaning day for shop and bathrooms.
I transplanted Deep Red lettuce seedlings into individual pots.


February 28

1978 - Tuesday - 0° at 6:15 - Fair - Snow predicted for tomorrow - beautiful all day.  I went to Jean Lewis' Peaceable Ridge Road for Orientation Meeting (Garden Club) from 9:30 - home at 1 PM. Quick lunch. Wes to Brewster. Dr Ross at 1:30 to check on contact lens - filled car with gas. Decided not to change snow tires. I finished packing. Wes  had completed his in morning.  Claire Ball brought seeds for us to take to Willie, gardener at Treasure Cay. Jule here at 5 o'clock for drink - took checks to mail.

1979 - Ash Wednesday - 20° at 6 AM - Clear beautiful sunny day - high about 47°. To 7:30 Mass. Howard and Jimmy here at 8 to install new thermostat in changed location. I went to McKeons to look at rug samples and to church to try them. Home to do a wash. Lunch & nap. I raked sticks from back. Wes split and brought up wood. Caught a squirrel (have noticed it around) I took him to Fair Grounds enroute Bethel for wall tapestries exhibit - bought fish for dinner.

1980 - Thursday. Home from Treasure Cay - 19° at 6:30 - Mostly clear - some clouds - snow flurries predicted but hone here. Our driveway had been plowed once while we were away - snow piled up near entrance walk. Unpacked, did wash (discovered hot water laundry pipe needs packing - also Wes' bathroom sink). Mail delivered at noon - a lot of sorting - to bank with ICP payment and other checks - paid Alex Ghee for bird feeding - picked up garage opener, car key & some plants from Gizella. "Tern" bird plate delivered.

1981 - Saturday - 20° at 6:30. Ponds iced again. Very light rain off and on all day. High about 40°. Hobby hour. Wes started cow-catcher. I put buttons on cotton shirt and made cookies and brownies. Cleaned out sewing closet. Very quiet day. Phoned Ginger Dienst - Herb still in hospital but doing better.

1982 - Sunday - 22° at 6AM. Clear, sunny day - high 34° but 82° in Solar at noon - in fact, we left there with our noon cocktail as it was too hot. 
To 8 o'clock Mass. Washed Solar Room floor put out plants, cooked for noon dinner - nap. Wes in shop - I transplanted more lettuce - ran out of peat pots.  To Ruth Sharp's at 5 PM for a drink - saw Nancy Carroll's enlarged prints of African animals. Father Tighe there. Home for soup - saw "Admiral Nelson".
