March 24

1978- Good Friday- AM Charlottesville, Va. Partly Cloudy. We have had good luck with weather. To Monticello - beautiful site and wonderful house - so glad we came. Passed Michie Tavern. To Ash Lawn, home of James Monroe (then known as Highlands) 2 1/2 miles from Monticello - reinterpretations - being renovated - to Skyline Drive - (only 40 miles) back to Route 81 over Rt. 33 on up thru Va. - West Va. - Maryland - Pa. Night Treadway Inn Grantville Pa.

1979 - Saturday - 47° at 6 AM - Partly cloudy. Put traps on terrace as saw 2 squirrels - didn't catch them. To 7:30 Mass. To Colonial Honda to look at 4-door Sedan - liked it - promised to let them know. Shopped Meekers for rakes - potting soil - hardware for hanging "Dove" and rolling pin.
Tabriz rug delivered in afternoon - placed it under cocktail table Young Tibor took his car from [[?]]. Rain about 5 o'clock.

1980 -  Monday - 26° at 6:30. Fair. Ponds frozen. To Bethel [[?]] for groceries, gasohol (last mileage was 25.8 per gallon). Marcus for milk & butter.
Worked outdoors until lunch - raking storm debris off driveway - Wes straightened up stonewall there - at dam and perennial garden. Lots of bees at corn tray and feeders - something new. Hobbies in afternoon - rain after dinner - turned to snow during night.

1981 - Tuesday - 15° at 6 AM. Clear - mostly - and sunny - cool breeze. To 7:30 Mass. Prepared tulips and "Hope of Spring" arrangement of Crocus - Snowdrop and Pussy Willow for Garden Club - took them to Marilyn Dillman. Picked up Helen - she took Charlotte Canellos & me to lunch at Elises - then to meeting - Ed Weiss on bees. Home at 5:30. Wes had moved two loads of wood at Bogus - saw Howard Castle there talked about heat at new house.

1982 - Wednesday - 26° at 6:20 - Fair - high about 50° - turned partly cloudy and cooler in afternoon. Nice relaxing day. Did house chores Shop work - Transplanted tomato plants - thinning out hanging baskets - into two pots. Outside after lunch - moved decaying logs stacked against oak on north side and threw them over cliff - brought up chips for veg paths - Wes raked road - cleaned more debris from spot above mailbox. Gizella and I went to Rectory - Landscaping Committee - Architect there

March 25

1978 - Holy Saturday - Left Grantville, Pa. (near Racetrack) at 8 AM - Cloudy - cold. Route 81 to 84 (Scranton) home - open all the way - good trip - stopped at Brewster for milk & groceries and home at 1:30 - lot of the snow had melted - no floods apparently - clear day. Paint job by Earl Sturges looks good - ceilings great - we put back some of furniture - vacuumed - lots of dust around - went to Mary & Jule's to pick up mail - opened the [[?]] - early to bed.

1979 - Sunday - 44° at 6:30 Clearing - heavy rain and wind during night. Saw 2 squirrels - put out traps - didn't catch. Canada Geese  pair landed just as leaving for 9:30 Mass - chased them when we returned. Lunch and nap. Pruned white pine at old blueberry patch. Set out in new coldframe part of coleus, geraniums, & hypericum growing for garden club - Beautiful afternoon - Painted inside and set up barn birdbath

1980 - Tuesday - 33° at 6 AM - Snow same - still falling lightly - didn't stick to terrace but beautiful on trees. At 10:30 I went to Ballard Greenhouse - left six-pack of Bush Champion cucumber - made copies of report for Garden Club - shopped liquor and Stop & Shop - Ricky Harrison took me to lunch at Pickles - to Frannie Scott's for 2 PM G.C. meeting - Judged sweepstakes Sgt Gilberti talk on vegetables - Dinner with Jule at 5 pm gave us carload of wood.

1981 - Wednesday - 23° at 6 AM - clear. Pair Wood Ducks ate corn. Pair Canada Geese came in - Wes chased them after breakfast. Chores and hobbies in morning after lunch to Bogus - moved two loads of front logs to back - cutting trail to new location. I planted crocus and snowdrops from my Garden Club arrangement of yesterday near front cliff. Rain started and Wes had a cold, wet ride home in the tractor.

1982 - Thursday - 28° at 6 AM - Foggy - cleared before 10 to a beautiful day - warmest this spring. To Mass. Fixed fireplace screen - a small repair but difficult to do. Outdoor work - Wes [[strikethrough]] continued [[/strikethrough]] Building wall at cliff under deck - going to widen it so we can walk around. I did some clearing - raked at front - and southeast - went over bank to dump leaves and tree debris. Early dinner - to Church Hall to hear Father Fay talk on Heaven, Hell & Purgatory.
