April 9

1978 - Sunday - 32° at 6:30 Beautiful clear day. Wes chased 2 Canada Geese before breakfast. To 9:30 Mass. Read papers in morning. After lunch I cultivated flower beds in front of house - chopped up some of compost - filled two holes on front bank. Inspected blueberries - look good.

1979 - Monday - 34° at 6 AM - Light rain - snow on back laundry corner! To Mass. Indoor day. Polished silver - Wes installed plant brackets over dining room window - I painted aluminum holders for Peace Dove and made a Mobile of Hammond Museum [[? Days]] birds and two bells - Delivery of oil - 3.50 gal @ 58¢  To Danbury Army Navy store - Wes bought boots for water and shop coat - I shopped Finast for a few groceries. Hobbies in afternoon. I made another chocolate chip poundcake [[pound cake]]

1980 - Wednesday - Rain - heavy in afternoon Flood at night. Diensts here - they went to see Coggeshall's house - daughter Helen & friends for the day. I had Garden Board meeting at 10 - picked up Helen. After lunch prepared supper - Herb and Ginger returned at 5:30. Left at 7 for Pleasantville Contata 25th Anniversary Concert - heavy rain - home at 12:30 in heavy flood - Our road cut off - water up to bridge

1981 - Thursday - 45° at 5:45 - Fair - Wes feels ok. To Mass. Wes had shop hour. I emptied water cans filled with rain water, as more rain predicted later. Increasing cloudiness. Transplanted lettuce from cold frame. Planted rows of carrots and beets. Wes filled rollers and rolled lawn across big pond. Took peat and compost to Bogus site and transplanted Pieris Japonica, Eunomymous and sedum. Rain drove us home at 3:30.

1982 - Good Friday - 32° at 6:45. Slept late cloudy. Snow predicted - didn't come here - flurries in Tarrytown - We had pale winter sun - not bad. I went to Stop & Shop for a few groceries  Lots of robins along roadside looking for food. To 3 o'clock service

April 10

1978 - Monday - 28° at 6 AM - Fair - 4 Geese - 1 Male Mallard 2 geese on front pond took off by themselves - we chased the others - To 7:30 Mass. I worked at Greenhouse 9:30/12.
Wes worked on "Ponds" sign - took out two Hemlock stumps below barn. Finished putting up new mailbox - waited for George the mailman to approve height. I put heating cable in cold frame. Moved parsley plants and leeks bought at Greenhouse there. Beets under lights coming up

1979 - Tuesday - 35° at 6 AM - Cloudy - Light snow overnight - Hill up Pine Mountain all ice covered. 4 squirrels on terrace. Put out corn (raccoon takes it overnight) for the Mallard pair. Caught #30 squirrel. Rain in gauge 1.15". Nothing coming up in veg garden - too cold. Ziegler delivered hall rugs! Made blueberry muffins and date and nut loaf when baking pork chops. Finished white cotton suit shirt 
Wes worked in shop. I raked a few leaves and sticks. Put Malathion on Iris. Canada goose plate delivered by UPS.

1980 - Thursday - off and on fair all day. No more rain thank God although thunder in afternoon Severe floods on parkways NYC. Diensts left for home after breakfast - we straightened up - did wash - made bed & ate - Went to Pinchbeck's for ivy - wire rings sheet moss for Garden Club project (ivy rings) work at Rickel's tomorrow. Transplanted cuttings into painted plastic tumblers - Wes worked in shop. To Ross's for cocktail at 5:30.

1981 - Friday - 30° at 5:45 - Beautiful morning & day. Shop hour for Wes - then to Danbury to pick up repaired razor - thistle seed from Meeker's - gasoline. I started digging up plants to take to Bogus site - did that in afternoon - Wes surrounded them with wire fence. Pinchbeck delivered lawn fertilizer and planting mix. Had lunch on breezeway

1982 - Holy Saturday - 28° at 6 AM. Sun up. Sun 5:25-6:30 - lovely day. Uncovered lettuce - didn't put plastic on at night - just the clay pot covers. 
Raked snow flat in spots for sun to melt.
House cleaning chores by Wes - I cooked sweet potatoes and carrots and Bavarian cream. Looked at lilies in church at Louise McKeon's suggestion

1. Pieris Japonica, Eunomymous and sedum are plant names. 2. There is a Bogus Hill Rd. in Danbury, CT. 3. Pinchbeck Farm in Danbury, CT. And families by that name, so I believe this is correct. 4. Rickel's was the name of a store at that time.
