May 11

1978-Thursday-42° at 5:45 - Beautiful day - best this spring - high 70°. Took off storm windows - preparatory to washing on 15th - brought out St Francis and small birdbath and all flower-pots. Sprayed Eileen's spruce and pacysandra [[pachysandra]]. Played golf 2-4 pm  - bought Season Pass $250: (150 for Wes - 100 second member of family). Spray painted white outdoor chairs. Good mail delivery - check for refund Mackey tickets - veg garden soil good. [[Robewoartz?]] re rings.

1979 - Friday - 60˚ at 6 AM - Clear - beautiful day not so warm  and a breeze - high 82˚ - had a nap at noon on terrace. Wes worked on grade at new terrace steps. I went to Ballard Greenhouse - bought plants - 2 hanging geraniums, flats of annuals, Sivedist Ivy - bought gas - 7.8 gals in Honda (getting 24 miles) 5 gal for car. We cut lawn in afternoon - didn't get to trimming. Saw Yellowthroat (warbler) in brush at West End and spotted sandpiper at dam overflow. Burned tent caterpillars at West End.

1980 - Sunday - 44˚ at 6 AM - Cloudy. Wes chased pair Canada Geese before breakfast. Saw pair Wood ducks. To 8 o'clock Mass - cut balance of grass except West End. Wes raked. Turned over compost into new spot - now have two places alongside each other. Put sod taken from woodshed steps To spot below barn where Eileen's trees were. I planted Trillium Erectum and 3 Heuchera June Bride. Cultivated perennial garden. Light rain around  noon - out again after nap - Busy day

1981 - Monday - 56˚ at 6 AM - Cloudy - rainy - light in morning - thunderstorm at night. 1.25 IN. TUES AM.
I worked at Greenhouse 9-12 - going for a haircut first. After lunch we gathered articles for church tag sale - packed the crystal to take to Tag Sale Shop. To Ridgefield to look at door locks at Ridgefield Supply - bought birthday present for Mary - made birthday cake on return home.

1982 - Tuesday - 42˚ at 6 AM - Clear - sun moving to left across ponds. Beautiful day - very warm and sunny. To Mass. Stopped at [[Dehip?]] to sign up for 8:30 golf next week - 9 o'clock today - played in threesome - clinic following - home at 1 pm. Wes laid out curve for perennial garden. We watered everything. Bob Allen didn't show up. Walked Buttons Early to bed.

May 12

1978 - Friday - 49˚ at 5:45 - high about 70˚ but mostly cloudy day. I shopped for groceries - bought Porterhouse for MQ & Jule - Jule has had bug over a week. Wes tried get big sprayer going - unsuccessful. Put in pond pump - T connection at garden broken - has to be replaced. Lettuce, spinach, beets, carrots & onions coming up. Saw Northern Oriole at feeder. One chipmunk around - put out trap - caught Bluejay

1979 - Saturday - 54˚ at 5:45. Cloudy - light mist in morning - off and on light rain in afternoon. To Mass. Wes transplanted taxus from barn planting and hosta from "holding bed" at shed, plus 2 new hostas Elegan to new terrace steps. Added slow growing taxus from back bank. I transplanted many tomato plants and marigolds. Brought up second coldframe (old one) from shed - now have 3 at barn. Rain at noon gave us chance to hobby in pm. All crab in full bloom - beautiful. Rose breasted male & female on feeder - have only one now.

1980 - Monday - 52˚ at 6 AM. Raining - thunderstorm Yesterday discovered one white duck killed by animal - carcass and feathers under pine tree. Light rain most of day.
Wes took Honda to shop for 1 year service (8, rented Mustang. To Basics - new supermarket in Danbury - no frills - lower prices - Thomas Protein 86¢ not 95¢ - bananas 24¢ not 43¢ etc. Picked up repaired lawnboy. Wes put on pre-emergent fertilizer. I planted wildflowers - washed white bench (4/10 inch rain)

1981 - Tuesday - 58˚ at 6 AM - Foggy - cloudy - had rained in night -some more, light, in day - .35 inches.
To Mass. Collected all articles for church tag sale, then took them to church hall. Took crystal, 2 stools, humidifier, dog dish, highball glasses to Tag Sale Shop. Left baby taxus at Ballard for the sale. Wes bought shells for gun but couldn't get any for Eileen's gun - trying to kill female pigeon. Calls for equipment ad in Pennysaver - sold sprayer and gasoline pump.

1982 - Wednesday - 43˚ at 6 AM - Cloudy - Foggy. Some raindrops during afternoon - no hoped for rain.
Wes took fence and posts down at south side Oliver Nursery came at 9:30 - two trucks - one for another customer - but men planted wrong crabapple before Mr. Oliver arrived! Wes liked the smaller white one better so were glad. Planted shed and winterberry [[?]] and birdsnest spruce along road - juniper and our taxus and ilex glabra at driveway right - Hemlock and [[Queathoe?]] along bog garden path - replaced dead azalea with rhododendron wilsonii - finished 3:30.
