December 5

1978 - Tuesday - 38° at 6 AM - Damp morning - became good weather day. Car wouldn't start - Texaco Airport came - left at 9 AM for Bloomingdale’s Stamford - demonstration Cuisinart baking - bought book - also bought lamps for secretary and kitchen over Kitchenaide - cap for Wes - 1979 Diary - lunch at Brooks - home via Ridgefield to see Congregational Church fire - gasoline at Marty Motors 69.9 - lowest in town - Took leaves from back bank Wes hung Kitchen lamp.

1979 - Wednesday - 20° at 6:30 - Fair - Watched Mallards fly over - circle many times - finally landed and ate - fly away to find water afterwards. 
To Ballard Greenhouse - planted cucumber and eggplant miniatures - bought silver chain for Eileen's pendant at Craig's - black blouse at Sweaters, Etc - Met Helen & Terry at Keeler Tavern for lunch - bought lavender dress at Essy's. Blouse for Mary F's Christmas at Palenes - Liquor & groceries. Wes had worked in shop - brought up wood for fire.

1980 - Friday - 15° at 6:30 - clear - Watched ducks fly over but didn't land - Cock Pheasant on terrace at breakfast time. Beautiful winter day - sunny and cold. Shop hour. I tried to line Bargello evening purse - no luck. Took it to Bethel - will have to provide button for closing. Later with Wes found one at Carole's Fabric Shop. Had air taken from tires at Lou Nargiso's - riding too hard. Took application for Mobil credit card. Texaco stock dropped to 47 - having been at 53.

1981 - Saturday - 34° at 6 AM - Cloudy. Eileen left for home with Boo at 7:30 - Phoned her Kitchen slider had been installed. To Lexington Gardens - bought gardenia - jasmine - crassanda - Saucers - Replacement shovel for me - Shopped Grand Union there for bananas and butter - had soup (very good) at Blue Colony. Home for nap. Wes in shop. I spent all afternoon transplanting and arranging plants in Greenhouse.

1982 - Sunday - 49° at 6 AM - Re 1975 - Gallon of milk is now $1.82 at Marcus - Re 1980, Texaco stock now barely holding 30. 
To 8 o'clock Mass. Cloudy day - high over 50° Shop hours in morning for Wes. I looked for stones for wall at end of perennial garden - Wes gathered them and built the wall after lunch. I put a mossy cedar log in front of ferns north end of deck. 

December 6

1978 - Wednesday - 21° at 6:30 - clear - heavy frost. 47 Mallards - 5 Crows. Housework until 11 AM when Wes took me to Helen's - she drove to Keeler Tavern for Christmas luncheon - on to New Canaan - Evelyn Leeman not in at Waveny Care Center, so we window shopped. Home at 3 pm. Wes had repaired back dam - bringing in wheelbarrow load full to pack down. He had worked in shop. At 6:45 pm Alex & Helen picked us up & we had dinner at Hearth.

1979 - Thursday - 36° at 6 AM - Fair - high 55° at noon. Shop hour for Wes. I cut out velvet skirt - To Bethel Auto Supply - bought hand pump for tires - Agway for corn - Bethel for Christmas presents for Eileen (Paddington Bear) Canape plates (us) scissors case (Mrs Singleton) Apron (Jule) Birthday - Ate ice cream at Dr. Mike's - delicious - very rich. Wes took out back dam - I dug rest of leeks - mowed side terrace and flat lawn - 30 mallards - 4 Whites & Pike

1980 - Saturday - 20° at 6 AM. One white duck on bank evidently spent night here - the other is missing. Pike stays on the ice under juniper - came out in afternoon. I met Madeline Morrison at Perkin Elmer driveway. She gave me sachets to sew - on to Bethel to give button to [[Needlejamb.]] shop for evening purse - bought Christmas stamps. Wes in shop. I sewed sachets after lunch. We walked about picking up branches - dragged big plank in front of compost pile as a walkway. Watched white duck fly back & forth when dark came - is she lonely?

1981 - Sunday - 32° at 6:30. Cloudy - very windy. cold day - Boston and the Cape had 16" snow - none here. Wes worked on books - I wrote cards - cleared kitchen of plants - put excess pots & baskets in hayloft - brought down double shelf wire plant table. 
To Hartcorns at 11 o'clock - Mass by Father Tighe followed by lunch - home at 3 pm - wrote more cards. Wes put new handle on sledge hammer - broke while driving stakes in vegetable bed.

1982 - Monday - 60 ° 7 AM - Light rain during night. .07 in our gauge. Reports of NYC Catskill reservoirs 34% very low. Saw Brewster Reservoirs were low. 
I had a haircut and bought a skirt pattern. Wes worked in shop. Left at 11:15 for L'Auberge Bretonne Patterson - where met Jule for lunch. Nice visit. Home at 2:30. Nap - then brought down stones from North end to finish perennial garden wall - one big lovely one for top of wall garden - worked till dark - beautiful sunset.
