January 20

1983 - Thursday. 6° at 6 AM. Sun 7:18-5:01 Fair cold windy day. To Mass.
Left at 8:45 for Greenwich Garden Center - talk & slide show on Rock Garden plants. Bought Jasmine and Hummingbird hose guide. To Bloomingdale's White Plains no coat for Wes (blue jacket) lunch there - looked in Saks finally found one in Altmans. Home at 4 pm.

1984 - Friday - 7° at 6:30. Clear sky - bright moon last night. Sun 7:16-4:58. Very cold beautiful winter day - sunny - House chores and hobbies in morning. Used cleaning cycle on oven for first time - did good job and made a devil's food cake to use oven heat following. Lunch and nap. Went to church - cleaned up poinsettias took out 5 plants & put them on our compost pile. Wes split wood - I filled bird feeders - using one piece of suet a day.

1985 - Sunday - 15° at 6 AM. Sun 7:16-4:59 - didn't see it until 3 pm. Snow in morning - very fine about 1 1/2 inch To 8 o'clock Mass. Wes split wood - otherwise in during morning snow. I redid our address/Christmas card book - took down sleeves of brown coat/fur collar After nap when sun came out - cleared front walk and Solar roof - driveway didn't need it. Watched some of Superbowl Game before 6th episode "Jewel in the Crown". Charlotte Curtis died

1986 - Monday - Celebration of Martin Luther King Holiday Sun 7:18-4:56 - only caught one glimpse of it at 10 o'clock. So we took our walk then. We didn't have the rain NYC reported But it looked like it all day - mild - 42° until afternoon. Went to Brookfield Lamp Shop - new shades for den lamps - light color - filters and a new dust brush at Vacuum Mart. Home for lunch & nap - Wes in shop. I ironed - made Nancy Callahan's apricot bread (good) waxed livingroom floor front of door behind sofa - Mr. Da Silva came at 4 pm to measure for living room draperies.

1987 - Tuesday - 26° at 7 AM - Cloudy - about 6 inches of snow. Sun 7:15-4:58 - wish we would see more of it - just a little in the morning. Wes raked the driveway - more like 8-10 inches of snow. I shoveled to bird feeders and made a path to front door. Pulled snow from Solar roof but a crust of ice underneath. To Pharmacy for drug form - had copy made - to Waldbaums - bank and Marcus - home for late lunch & nap - Wes refilled birdfeeders - I did wash and Ironed.
Snowflake had spaying operation - doing OK.


January 21 

1983 - Friday - 10º at 6:45 - Fair. Sun 717-502. Beautiful winter day - not as cold. Wes split wood Worked in shop. I did wash - shampooed hair - worked with plants - fed birds - shoveled snow from deck.
Re prices listed previous years: - Thomas Protein bread is now $1.19 - oatmeal $1.89. Diary still lost in mail.

1984 - Saturday - 1º at 7 AM - Slept late - a good morning for it. Sun 7:15-4:59. Sunny day, luckily, but very very cold. House cleaning day - did wash. Wes split wood. At least 5 Cardinals in late afternoon Starlings knocked suet holder off wire - I made bread in ceramic dome dish - good.
To Ruth Sharp's at 5:15 for a drink - everyone comparing low temperatures. Zero when we went to bed.

1985 - Monday - 2º at 6 AM - NYC had minus one! Re prices previous years - oatmeal now $1.99 - we don't use Thomas Protein anymore. Wes went to Pharmacy to pick up Timoptic (eye drop) and have drug form signed for refund. I went for a haircut at 11:o'clock - home for lunch and a nap. - sun in den - to Nancy McDaniels for Nominating Committee meeting at 2 pm - Vera Nelligan other member - home at 4:45 - Very cold and windy. Wes had split wood - filled birdfeeders Sun 7:15-5 PM

1986 - Thursday - 35º at 6 AM - Sun 7:17-4:57. Beautiful winter day - Breezy - mild in afternoon.
To Mass. I went to Ridgefield - Colbys to pick up wallpaper for master bath (paperhanger coming Monday) Stop & Shop - Brunetti's - Wes worked in shop. Took our walk.- lunch - nap - out to split wood (Wes) Wes took down ironwoods near mailbox. I filled holes in Bog. Wall with gravel - transplanted Geraniums Lancastriense into tall black pots (annuals meeting GCA) Wes found twirler over cliff lost weeks ago in high wind

1987 - Wednesday - 24º at 6 AM - Cloudy - some snow flurries in morning - cleared about 10:30 to sunny & beautiful - cloudy again in afternoon To Mass - watered poinsettias in church - to Youngs for birdfood - Brunetti - Wes to Photo Shop to learn how to take off new lens - bought another cover for lens - Fabric shop closed so no looking for a pattern for me - gasoline. Hitest now $1.08/gal - Took our walk - lunch - nap - shoveled more snow to prepare for next storm. To Nancy Carrolls at 5 for a drink. Billie Newell & Grace Schaefer there - Home at 7.
