January 26

1983 - Wednesday - 26° at 7 AM. Sun 7:14-5:08
Beautiful winter day - cold but sunny.  Lunch on Solar. 
Wes split wood - worked in shop - fixed leaking laundry tap. I went to Ridgefield Savings Bank to check interest - mailed letter & check to Cornwall for this diary - shopped Grand Central. Diary Eileen arranged to buy for us - which she mailed on 13th arrived! Phoned her - she will call off search. I cut out cotton skirt - wrote some diary pages from temporary book. 

1984 - Thursday - 32° at 6:30 - Partly cloudy. Sun 7:12-5:05. No Mass as Father Midynski has a cold - Louis McKeon phoned last night. Sunny morning - cloudy in afternoon. House chores and hobbies.
Drove down Ridgebury Road to look at Historic District - a proposal for split of road at north to Old Stagecoach. 
Watched Laurence Olivier in 'Lear' at night - marvelous. 

1985 - Saturday - 19° at 6:30 - Sun 7:11-5:06.
Snow flurries in morning - cleared at noon. Wes went for a haircut & to bank & Marcus. I did house chores.  Before lunch we walked down Bogus - first time since the snowstorm - good to exercise again - napped in den in sunshine. Wes split wood - laid a fire. I washed hair - started work on plant order from Wayside.

1986 - Sunday - 45° at 6AM - Raining - heavily at times. To 8 o'clock Mass. As no snow (all gone in rain) decided to go to Bronxville for Wes' birthday celebration - roads flooded in spots - fog near lake - but no trouble. To Eileen's for a visit then on to Mary's - there at 12:30 - Nice birthday party - Eileen gave Wes a Mozart CD and me the Sunbeam OSKAR. Mary gave Wes a railroad book and me table-mats - left about 3:30 - dropped off Eileen - she had bought us 3 loaves of wholewheat bread from Alters - home before dark at 4:30 - nap - soup - first episode of "Mountbatten" rain again before bedtime. 

1987 - Monday - 17° at 7 AM - Snowing - six inches forecast. We had put up heat & oatmeal early to help & warm for breakfast. We were lucky this snowstorm - very fine and two inches. Wes opened up the turnaround and cleared the driveway entrance to the road. I shoveled birdwalk, deck and pulled some snow off Solar - a lot of ice there. We saw a big bird in tree over pond - may have been hawk. Ameritech certificate for 24 shares arrived - result of stock split & also check for sale of half share - We figured out cost etc for tax purposes.  I consolidated past tax reports. 


January 27

1983 - Thursday - 25° at 7AM. Cloudy. Sun 7:13-5:09. 
No Mass as Father on vacation. Monday cold all day - bit of sun at noon - no Solar lunch.  Finished bringing this diary up to date - sewed blue cotton skirt - the pattern isn't suitable for wool. Wes worked in shop and split wood. I fed birds. Phoned Bet - couldn't reach her until 10:45 - Mike had tests - no results known yet.

1984 - Friday - 28° at 6:15 - New moon out kitchen window. Sun 7:11-5:06. Beautiful day - temperature went over 50°. Had sandwich in Solar and I did hand sewing there. 
To town for gas (Airport Texaco moved yesterday off Route 7) few groceries - drugstore - shopped at Cotton Patch to ask how to take Bernina out of cabinet - should be easy. Wes worked in shop and cut wood. I checked some tax records. 

1985 - Sunday - 15° at 6 AM.  Sun 7:11-5:07. After a snow flurry or two in the morning - a beautiful afternoon. To 8 o'clock Mass. Watered plants - a big job. Left at 10 o'clock for Eileen's - from there to Bronxville for lunch given by Mary for our birthdays - Wes received a red tie from Mary - a scarf for me - Eileen gave Wes a pedometer and a map atlas - and the "Raj Quartet". Returned home via Alter's where we picked up 6 loaves of wholewheat bread ordered by Eileen - drove thru Pocantico Hills - beautiful land. 

1986 - Monday - 36° at 6AM - Light rain - NYC had record 2.19 inches last 24 hours. Temperature to drop - not until night - not a bad day - damp and cloudy. Sticky Fingers man here 8-12:45 to take paper from master bath walls - no sizing had been used - so it was a big scraping job - finished just in time for our nap. We had taken our walk in morning. Wes in shop - I worked with plants - preparing Rosemary Ring for Garden Club meeting tomorrow. Wes split wood in afternoon. Played new CD Mozart's Piano Concertos 21 & 23 - used Oscar food processor - great. 

1987 - Tuesday - 9° at 7AM. Fair cold winter day. I picked up Helen and went to Garden Club meeting,  starting at 9:30 - Congregational Church - program on Brazil rain forest by World Wildlife Fund - stopped at bank enroute home for lunch. Found roads passable but difficult with snow.  Wes had opened path to front door and widened turnaround. 
After lunch & nap I worked on tax records - Wes worked with camera - accessories - brought out album for his prints.
