March 18

1983 - Friday - 38° at 7AM - Cloudy - Rain predicted - did rain all day, lightly at first, heavy in evening, came in top of batches kitchen slider over Plant light. 
House chores - washed whites - polished brass  
Wes hung one blind in the shop - looks good. 
George Ventris here - went over work for mantel - hydrant cover - garage shelves - door in hall near Powder Room. To last Mission service 8 pm - intended to go to confession but line too long.

1984 - Sunday - at Holiday Inn near I-95 North of St. Augustine.  Beautiful morning - left at 9:30 - thru Jacksonville to Savannah - there at noon. De Soto Hilton - drink in "Lion's Den" - Lunch in "The Pavilion" - Buffet - good.  To Room at 2 PM - left bags - walked to Factors Row on Savannah River = city dirty - must have had parade yesterday - squares beautiful in architecture but unkept. Azaleas out - back to hotel for nap - checked maps and planned tomorrow's route. To The Old Pink House (built 1771 Savannah's oldest) for dinner - good but too much. Savannah looked better in dark.

1985 - Monday - 24° at 6:30. Mostly sunny, windy, cold. Walked Boo before breakfast.
Wes drove me to Edith Miffley's - Fred drove - we picked up Hawsie and on to Planting Fields Arboretum, Oyster Bay, L.I. - We looked for examples of plants & trees for Memorial Garden - beautiful greenhouses. Camillas - Cinerarias. Back to Ridgefield at 4:30 - Wes waiting - He had split wood - walked Boo - worked in shop.

1986 - Tuesday - 32° at 6 AM. Clear. Sun came over the hill about 6:30 - Beautiful day, in 50's in afternoon. To Mass. Transplanted geraniums Joan had given us - I had made 5 cuttings - repotted Leptospermum - Wes made a new wire support. To bank and on to Plaza Sweets where we bought cookies for RGC meeting next week - Wes worked out perfect route - Sprain Brook to 287 - to Exit 5 to Loehmann's parking lot. Home for lunch - nap - out to get wood - take branches off salt hay on perennial bed - planted forced Species Tulips and Crocus - inspected deer damage - ice is melted around rim of pool - still there in center.

1987 - Wednesday - 29° at 6 AM. Sun 6:03/6:05. Fair, quite cool, beautiful day. I watered Mary Luke's plants - those in light trays very dry.
We washed car. Wes left for White Plains at 11:15 - took Bob Dorsch, Lou Straehl, Ed Teclaw, Ray Brady to lunch at Jockey Club - home 3:45. I had done wash - ironed - worked on crossword - Wes finished it - did some sewing on big blue shirt not very successfully. Took a nap.


March 19

1983 - Saturday 49° at 6:30 - Raining - windy - fog - Rain let up in afternoon - Rain came in kitchen slider on east side during heavy downpour last night. 
House cleaning - Wes hung second blind in shop. I sewed long wool skirt using Joan's pattern cut down. Went to Danbury for lining material - mantel order but Danbury Lumber closed. Saw pair Swans with Canada Geese on flooded field old fair grounds. Robin at our South side.

1984 - Monday - Overnight at DeSoto Hilton, Savannah. Beautiful warm day. After breakfast left at 8:30 via Routes 17A-95-17A & 17 to Brookgreen Gardens - a sculpture and nature refuge between Georgetown and Myrtle Beach, N.C. - there at noon for a couple hours. Then up Route 501 to 95 again and to Fayetteville at Holiday Inn - new and attractive - dinner in their "Greenery" Room.

1985 - Tuesday - 18° at 6 AM - Cold & clear. Sun 6:01-6:07. Warm sun but cold and breezy. Walked Boo. To Mass 
Changed bed - did wash. To Greenhouse to transplant Painted Daisy given to them and destined for Ballard Garden. Shopped for bananas - 49¢/lb. enroute home - lunch - nap. To Lexington Gardens for plant trays and plant cubes  - to Ace where Wes left a measuring gauge for repair - walked Boo - Christman phoned sofa was in - they want to deliver Saturday - phoned Silk Purse who will come Friday to look at present sofa.

1986 - Wednesday - 48° at 6:30 - Rain - wind - not as much of either as forecast - Long Island had 60-75 mph winds and damage.
I worked at Ballard Greenhouse in the morning, stopping at Anne's in the morning to discuss plans for meeting next week. Ethan Allen delivered TV table - we are using it at side of sofa and storing the compact discs in it. Did Crossword. B & D lily bulblets were delivered. Put Apricot Beauty tulips in Solar - cool there but best light to open bulbs & keep them straight. Wes getting sore throat.

1987 - Thursday - 28° at 6 AM - Fair - sunny - windy - clouded up late afternoon. To Marcus for milk & eggs. Took our 2 mile walk to Sunley's. Lunch - nap. I sewed on blue big shirt - checked plants. Wes continued on locomotive plan.
Watched Presidential Press Conference at 8 pm - return of "Upstairs Downstairs" at 10.
