April 11

1983 - Monday - 42° at 6 AM - Cloudy - 
1.8 inches in rain rain gauge at 7 AM.  Cleared later in day.  George Ventris & son worked on kitchen doors.
I worked at Ballard 9:30/12 - Meeting with other Hostesses for next Garden Club meeting at Congressional Church afterwards.  Home for lunch.  Wes had been in shop.  We transplanted barberry from spot near woodpile (South) to places along road.  Transplanted some of Tomato plants.  Gave 5 to Gizella - Returned her "Jewel Box Siningia".  Identified call of Red Bellied Woodpecker who returned to suet today.

1984 - Wednesday - 36° at 6 AM - Partly cloudy - turned into a beautiful day - cool breeze but warm sun.  Walked Boo.  Mike came to start repairs of burned chimney.  Eileen & Bet returned from Charleston - will come up tomorrow for Boo.  Bethel Sand & Gravel delivered 9 yards of topsoil - pretty wet.  Transplanted Juniper from corner of Wall Garden to Wood Knoll - put Mary's Alberta Spruce in wall garden - I transplanted Sweet Woodruff from top of S.E. wall (where Wes is making new one) to Crab.

1985 - Thursday - 37° at 6:30 and cloudy - only 5 drops here - light rain in NYC - we are so dry.  No Mass as Father away.  Moved Ilex Globra - same bed more to East to make room for proposed Arborvitae - moved two juniper from driveway edge - one more toward Lumber Pine - the other to Wood Knoll edge - also moved one from in front of Kalmia to edge - moved daffodils in shade garden to make room for St Francis - Pickwick House took our sofa and two chairs - new furniture supposed to come end of month - we picked up cushion from Da Silva for Bob [[?Colles]] chair.

1986 - Friday - 32° at 6 AM - Cloudy - snow flurries - indoor weather.  House & plant chores - Transplanted zinnea and marigolds into individual pots.  Wes in shop.
Went to pharmacy - new pill Ditropan [[?Micron]] - one a day - to Waldbaums - bananas 55¢ a pound - to Steek's - bought 2 Arborvitae - one white pine - 7 laurel to be delivered next week.  Home for lunch and nap.  More shop and plant work - planted another pot of Cleome - first one hasn't germinated.

1987 - Saturday - 42° at 6:30.  Fair - warm - 74° in the afternoon - To dentist - both had teeth cleaned and xrays.  Took out money from Village Bank - finished with that bank now.  Wes went to Reclamation.  I ordered lamb for Easter.  Home to put cages around day-lilies and sedum the deer had chewed to the ground.  Wes put fan in Solar.  Lunch - nap - I went to Beth, Regis Beauty Shop at the Mall for a haircut.  Wes dug three holes for Rhododendron on North Slope.  We moved plant lights to garage - I planted Marigold & Zinnia.  To Rosses at 5:30 for a cocktail party - Sattlers 40th Anniversary on 18th - they go to Buenos Aires


April 12

1983 - Tuesday.  38° at 6 AM - Sunny! first morning sun was up for many days - Cloudy again and cold wind in later afternoon.  No Mass as left at 8:15 for gasoline and on to Tarrytown for Eileen - on to Metropolitan Museum for Vatican Show.   We went in at 10:30 - out at 12:15 - lunch at Restaurant there after a long wait on line - returned home via Tarrytown and Pinchbeck to order tulips for Ruth Sharp - George Ventris had the kitchen door up and mantel on - Good! - Road a mess as Fred Grouse putting in road drains - trouble with water front of Vargas.

1984 - Thursday - 42° at 5:45 - Boo needed out - then she went back to bed!  Beautiful day - around 60°.  To Mass - had walked Boo.  To Stop & Shop - left papers at Brunetti's for meat - Cheese Shop & Home to prepare for Eileen  Bet here 11-2 - good to see them - back from Charleston - took Boo home - Wright sprayed evergreen trees and bushes - Prepared for Father Ben and Rosses - here at 6:30-10:30 - Rosses just back from their southern trip.

1985 - Friday - 34° at 6 AM - Beautiful morning and day.  I went to Ballard to hear talk on Day-lilies and Hostas, met Shirley Clifford on Garden Mart growers and Hawsie Nash on Memorial Garden plan drawn by Wes.  Home at noon - Hoffman had serviced burner - Mike Mannion came to look at dining room, pocket door, but couldn't fix it - Wes finished bringing down chips to bog path - we planted dwarf Kalmia each side of bench after Wes took out a lot of stone - watered all transplants - it planted perennials delivered by Wayside - put trays out in sun - Wright sprayed evergreens - said wild hemlocks had scale.

1986 - Saturday
34° at 6:30 - Cloudy - cold - not outdoor working weather.  House cleaned.  To Eileen's at 10:30 - picked up sandwiches from Deli and had a good lunch with her.  Brought back the two brass lamps she had ordered for us from Virginia Metalcrafters one of which, unfortunately, was bent - the candle part.  Eileen said to wait to return - too bad. Had nap - walked about looking at spots to transplant the Ilex Glabra & Taxas, for the Arborvitae expected next week.  Saw fourth episode of Charters and Caldicott on Ch. 13 - excellent.

1987 - Sunday - 50° at 6 AM.  Fair.
To 8 o'clock Mass - I was Lector Narrator for the [[?Palm's]].  Fixed plants - (out of Solar) packed - left at 10:30 - Routes 84 to Scranton - 81 - turned off on Route 41 side of Skancables Lake - to Route 20 - to 90 thruway - to Exit 46 Rochester where had difficulty locating entrance to Holiday Inn!  Phoned Joan & Eileen - Heard on TV Texaco would declare bankruptcy.
