April 13

1983 - Wednesday - 38° at 6 AM - Fair - sunny.
Left at 9:30 for bank and Atchley Pavilion.  Wes had 11:30 appointment with Dr Baer - got in at 1:45 - I had 1:30 with Dr Lippert.  Wes' blood pressure 130/80 mine 140/80 - Wes was 3 lbs under last time - I was 3 lbs over!  Home at 3:30 - road work continuing by Fred Grouse's men - messy.  Wes took a nap - I checked Wall garden etc. - Dutchman's breeches appearing.  Tomato plants had spent day in sun - most have blossoms.

1984 - Friday - 44° at 6 AM - Partly cloudy - off and on day - windy - more sun in city than here.
Left at 8:30 for NYC - Wes had 11 o'clock appointment with Dr. Puchner at 38E 61 Street - renovated hospital for Columbia Presbyterian patients/doctors - Good report - come back in a year.  To Florentines - bought St. Fraere to be sent in 2/3 weeks - they are moving to L.I. City.  Home after stop at Rosedale - bought Juniper procumbens, broccoli and parsley.  To St. Josephs for Communal penance service & individual confession.

1985 - Saturday - 44° at 6 AM - Cloudy - cleared off and on - no showers, as predicted - not a nice spring so far.  House cleaning chores.  Phoned Groundkeepers Service to pick up brush - we pulled brush from Bog area to road side.  Load of topsoil delivered from Danbury topsoil - (8 yards @ $17 a yard).
Transplanted the four emerald gaiety from Garden Room to Wood Knoll near Laurel.
Tossed out creeping Fig ring as noticed white fly on it - made cuttings from it for stuffed rabbit perhaps.

1986 - Sunday - 30° at 6 AM - Sunny.  Ice on pool.  Squirrel had knocked off birdfeeder - they do a lot of damage in garden also.  Mostly fair.  To 8 o'clock Mass.
Dug up Ilex Glabra and Taxus from side of garage - put Taxus in Rhododendron/Andromeda Garden - moving two Siberian Iris to other spots there - wired it against den.  The Ilex Glabra Wes put in hole on front Wood Knoll where Mugho Pine had been & that was ruined by deer - big job as hit large stone - tipped that up in place - Eileen came up at 3 pm to pick up brass lamps to return them - wouldn't stay for dinner.  Boo has a [[?]].

1987 - Monday - breakfast at Holiday Inn Rochester - left for Youngstown - off Thruway at Batavia followed Routes Hooker gave us - arrived at Holmdens at 4 pm.  Walked about grounds - giving what advice we could at first sight - admired all work Joan & Hooker had done in house.  Cocktail in sun on terrace/[[?Cank]].  Good chicken dinner.  Eileen phoned & gave us more news on Texaco filing for bankruptcy.  Dividends suspended.  We thought Joan looked thin - has difficulty walking but doesn't talk much about MS


April 14

1983 - Thursday - 32° at 5:45 - Cold!  [[?]] seen coming up - didn't stay long - cloudy, cold day.
Shopped for suet as Red Bellied Woodpecker coming often to feeder - found some at Finast Bethel - Mailed tax returns from there.  Planted tomato - pepper - cucumber seeds.
George Ventris finished carpentry work on kitchen door.  West put on door stops.  Fred Grouse's road work continued - very messy.  His Surveyor came to set out septic system.  I saw their own pipe on North side - (not yet own - we checked) 65' north of where we thought our line was.

1984 - Saturday - 40° at 6:45 - Misty - Rain off and on.  Heavy in afternoon - leaked at partially repaired chimney.  Had to get out pails and use lots of towels to catch drip in hayloft and in shop.
I went to Books Plus - bought 2 of Mary Luke's books for Bet and Joan - picked up tickets at library for author luncheon on April 25th - home for lunch & nap.  Wes had dug hole for expected third pine - we had planted new Juniper procumbens and switched purple rhododendrons over wall garden.  To hear Maxim & Dimitri Shostakovich at Ridgefield Orchestra.

1985 - Sunday - 39° at 6:15 - cloudy - dreary, cold - only a mist overnight.  To 8 o'clock Mass.  To Marcus for milk better & eggs.  The old fairgrounds is a sea of sand - East part of road in front of Marcus has been lowered at least ten feet.  Put Hollytone on shrubs.
Transplanted wild honeysuckle bush from road near bog to bank near Leatherleaf Viburnum.  Filled holes with new topsoil at blueberry patch and Wood Knoll.  Put soil half around blueberry bushes.  Dug hole on Wood Knoll for proposed Hemlock but hit too many rocks.

1986 - Monday - 32° at 6 AM - Fair.  Squirrel knocking tube feeder off its hook these mornings - now we realize it must be a raccoon.  Fair beautiful day.  I worked at Ballard Greenhouse in the morning - Mailing our tax reports and buying gasoline ($1.04 gal. Super unleaded) enroute and going to laboratory for Blood and Urine tests going home.  Steck had just delivered the pine, 2 Arborvitae and 7 laurel which we planted after lunch and nap - finished at six o'clock - tired but think they look good.  Lucily Wes had dug the three holes for the laurel near the shed.  President Reagan on TV at 9 to announce bombing of Libya.

1987 - Tuesday - at Youngstown N.Y. with Joan & Hooker - beautiful morning - cloudy PM and a few sprinkles.  Walked to St. Bernard's Church for 7:30 Mass.  Big breakfast.  Drove to Canada over Whirlpool Bridge - tulips - daffodils, crocus out in gardens - Admired Green House/Conservatory overlooking Canadian Falls - picnic lunch in park above river - back home for a nap - to Mary and Fitch Cody's for a cocktail at 5:30 - dinner at Yankee Girl on Main Street - home for talk and bed at 10 pm.
