May 5 

1983 - Thursday - 38° at 6:15 - Beautiful day - Morning clouds and few sprinkles in afternoon, To mass. 
I went to Ballard Garden to work - on to Shemin Nursery with Madeline Morrison & Paul Roche to buy lilacs for Garden - Leucothoe for us - back at Garden at 1 pm - shopped - to bank to turn over 6 months certificate - 8.4% interest - home - Wes had dug nursery space for Laurel - planted them on south side - watered new plants there. To Mary Luke's at 5:30 for cocktail - picked up Billie and to McKeon's for dinner - home at 11:30. 

1984 - Saturday. 46° at 6 AM - Light sprinkles. Walked Boo. 6/10 inch more rain - good for our transplants. House chores in morning - checked flowers at church - lilies and azaleas. After lunch Wes stripped sod from new garden bed in front of shop. I weeded wall garden - brought down chips to dress walk off new stone path. Brushed Boo before Eileen came at 5 (home from New Orleans) She spent night with us. 

1985 - Sunday - 46° at 6 AM - Cloudy - off and on sunny - damp in morning. To 8 o'clock Mass. Stained shed - hope the darker stain takes over the light paint. Lunch - nap. To Hemlock Hills Open Space walk - 3 hours - very rocky and hills on some trails - beautiful brook near camp grounds. Home at 4 pm - read papers - rested. 

1986 - Monday. 49° at 6:30 - Cloudy. Wes had upset stomach during night - feels ok now. Became sunny warm - 80° in afternoon. Prepared window ledges for Ves Brenier, here at 10:30 to clean windows. Called Stevenson re two windows in sewing room whose seals are broken. Planted all Perennials bought at Claire's. Wes went for haircut and to bank & Nutmeg - saw not yet repaired. He siphoned water from the pond - used it to water rhododendrons and laurel along Bog Path. I found another May Apple in Stone Steps Garden & put it with others on Bog Path. 

1987 - Tuesday - 42° at 6:15 and raining. 1/4 inch in gauge at 8 AM - Light rain in morning
I took wild flowers for GCA exchange to Ballard Garden - met Muriel Pedersen and we decided on tree - made out entry card data. Put 50 lbs Hollytone on Exbury's and evergreens - 100 lbs Grotone on perennials outside - Wes spread chips on Garden Room entrance along Bog Path. I moved 4 Dalebardo  Repens to lower Bog Path (hope for more moisture) Replanted wild flowers needed for GCA

May 6

1983 - Friday - 39° at 6:30. Beautiful day - best so far. Made a long list of jobs before Deerfield trip tomorrow - did everything - planted Leucothoe on south bank - cut grass - cultivated garden - watered all new plants - took Basil to Louise McKeon and dug up Mertensia and Tansy from her garden - dug Lambs Ears from Gizella's garden for Madeline Morrison - put out big bird feeder to be sure Rose Breasted Grosbeak has enough for the weekend - 

1984 - Sunday - 46° at 6 AM - Fair day - Eileen had spent night with us - She walked Boo. We went to 8 o'clock Mass. She returned home afterwards. Wes put compost on new flower bed - dug it up. I mixed up fine soil with compost - Balls - leaf mold We planted W77 perennials from "holding bed" - Echinops - Euphorbia - Phlox "Miss Lingard - White Dictamnus. I moved Fosteriana tulips from Treong 6 bed to back of Hostas base of oak tree.

1985 - Monday - 58° at 6 AM - Cloudy - light sprinkle at breakfast time - some more during day - 3/10 inch
I worked at Memorial Garden - Parks & Rec. men dug out some of plants - Hawsie Nash there - home for lunch after bank and stores. Wes had worked on south wall and steps to Garden Room. I went to Ruth Sunley's at two pm - two hour walk on their property - wildflowers in profusion - showy Orchis - Louise Peck and Jean Henley there. home to transplant Wall Garden plants - Shower at 5:30 again

1986 - Tuesday - 58° at 6 AM - Fair - Warm - high 90°. Glad for some clouds in late afternoon. To Mass 
Did wash & ironing - made coffeecake for Thursday Ballard 
Completed cleaning pool - set up pump - filled with water (Wes did that) He picked up his saw from Nutmeg. I had a haircut at "From the Heart" Grand Union Mall - they only do it with the works! Different & expensive. I put some Marigolds and Zinnias (half of plants) in Triangle Garden - firmed in everything planted yesterday. Did a little watering.

1987 - Wednesday - 45° at 6:15 - cloudy. To Mass. Wes put up deer fencing along north line - from shed to road - a big job 
I planted more Marigold & Zinnia seeds - the first very poor germination - watered plants. Afternoon worked outdoors - putting more strawberries in pots for Garden Mart - cut grass.
