June 22

1983 - Wednesday - 54° at 6 AM. Sunny. Caught Vincent and stopped paper while Wes in hospital.
Watered and fertilized vegetables - put sprinkler in Wood Knoll - ran well dry - Wes showed me how to start up motor in crawlspace. Lunch - nap - left for hospital about 2 - there before 3:30 - long wait for admitting - much moving back & forth by patients - Room 1062 at 5:30. Dr Puchner and Dr Shepherd came. Explained operation - scary procedure - I got to Eileens at 7.

1984 - Friday - 54° at 6 AM - Sunny. Beautiful day. Played golf 8-10 - put with Doc Hawley and Charlie, as lots of people playing. Wes took Honda to shop as peculiar sound in motor - water pump was replaced. Wes rented a car and returned for Honda at 4 pm. Cultivated and watered gardens. Wes repaired noisy Solar fan.
After lunch and nap dug out around stone in north grass. To Ruth Sharp's at 5 pm for a drink - Sabrina there and Billie Newell.  Bit phoned Neil sold house but hasn't a job. Gus going to Florida.

1985 - Saturday - 54° at 6:30 - Beautiful morning. Midday looked like a storm - none - clear evening.
Did another wash - of one guest room sheets.
Wes took out stump of beech he cut off yesterday. Used the chipper on the branches & leaves - worked well. Arranged stone - used little duck on top of circulating pump - filled pool - a good effect. I transplanted the Bright-Eyes Vinca from gravel below big rock at entrance to Triangle bed. To Rosses cocktail party at 5:15 - all Ridgebury there.

1986 - Sunday - 54° at 6:30 - Beautiful day - some clouds and three drops at 6 pm - To 8 o'clock Mass. Returned travel booklets to Tracy's and Mary Luke - picked up geraniums Rosses had minded for us. Worked on place rest of day. Wes graded cliff walk - brought in compost to fill edges - I deadheaded wall garden - watered new rhododendron and laurel on North slope - weeded at driveway entrance - lifted trees near wall garden/mail box area.

1987 - Monday - 68° at 6:30. Cloudy - a few sprinkles in afternoon but not the heavy downpours forecast - we don't need it.Wes and I worked in Ballard Garden deadheading trimming - staking - shopped Stop & Shop following - no bananas. Home to put house back in order after party - we feel very relaxed - not much pep. After lunch, though, Wes worked on service area near shed - I deadheaded wall garden - picked some alpine flowers for Sweepstakes tomorrow.


June 23

1983 - Thursday - G in Tarrytown - W in hospital. Beautiful cool morning - warm day.
I went to 9 o'clock Mass after Eileen went to work - bought paper and few groceries. Walked Boo. Left at 12:30 for Presbyterian Hospital. Wes had prostate surgery - over at 11 AM. Recovery Room until 2 pm. I waited in garden - Wes having severe bladder spasms - taking no fluids - draining into bag - uncomfortable. I left him at 6 pm - spent night with Eileen.

1984 - Saturday - 60° at 6:30 - Foggy - sun coming thru for a beautiful day. We're looking for rain again.
After doing a wash, worked outside all day - no house cleaning. Deadheaded - watered - Wes started taking two big stones from front of huge stone in North grass - got both out by days end - using cribbing for the second one. I started pulling out Meadow Grass on cliff off deck - didn't finish but it will look better - plan to put ferns there. Watched a 10" turtle lay eggs on front path - We later dug up almost 30 - put on compost.

1985 - Sunday - 64° at 6:30 - Cloudy - shower at 5 PM, barely measurable. To 8'clock Mass. I did the final wash of guest sheets - ironed all. Wes spread the wood chips he made yesterday & put them on path to shed.
Early lunch - nap - to "Prizzi's Honor" - Jack Nicholson Angelica Huston - Too violent for us.

1986 - Monday - 64° at 6 AM - Cloudy. We're beginning to get over jet lag. Wes took film to Sturdevants for developing - to bank as one check missing in statement. I picked up plants Muriel had minded while we were away - shopped Stop & Shop. After lunch worked on gardens - cut south grass. Wes prepared spot to drop future deliveries of topsoil - gravel etc. Boo was bit by a skunk last night. Hot muggy day - looked like thunderstorm but none here.

1987 - Tuesday - 68° at 6 AM. Cloudy - sometimes looked like a storm - but none. Much cooler late in afternoon - humidity gone and a good breeze.
Did a wash - to Danbury bank - put Southwestern Bell Certificate in Safe Deposit Box finally - Waldbaums - lumberyard didn't have post for bell - Wes turned over compost - early lunch & nap - I picked up Helen Ross & went to annual meeting of Garden Club at Vera Neligans. Won Silver Bowl for year's Sweepstakes - home 4:30 - Wes was working on work area at shed.
