July 16

1983 - Saturday - 68° at 6:15 - Sun coming up thru haze.  Good to see ground wet.  Very hot humid day until afternoon when a hot breeze arrived.
Did wash, some housework.  Made rice salad and brownies for lake picnic.  Outdoors to edge back of wall garden - stayed out of sun.  Put Cyclamen up in holding bed - brought down freezia and put them in storage box.  To picnic at 6:15 - lots of neighbors there - stayed couple hours. (90° in afternoon)

1984 - Monday - 70° at 6 AM - Cloudy - thunder at 4 PM but no rain here - To Brewster North Station at 8:30 for the 9:05 train - metered parking 75¢ - taxi to Brewster - electric Train to Grand Central - air conditioned - comfortable - on time 1 Hour - 20 minutes - rain at Brewster - thunderstorm enroute (only a trace here).  Phoned Anne Nappa - subway to 68th Street Wes to Dr. Espy - pressure down, - continue drops return 3 months - $40-  Walked to Bloomingdale's - lunch at Le Train Bleu - subway to Grand Central - 2:48 train to Brewster - taxi to North Station - Home at 5 pm - Good day.

1985 - Tuesday - 65° at 6 AM - Cloudy - .55 in gauge from last nights rain.  Sprinkles in early morning - then partly cloudy.  Very humid and hot when sun out.  Wes and I worked in Ballard Garden with Muriel Pedersen in morning - shopped Caldors for Norelco razor for Wes - groceries at Stop & Shop - stakes at Young's.  Lunch - nap - deadheaded - planted rest of onions.  Wes put up new cable for bird food over Blueberry Patch to keep birds from killing plants on wall.

1986 - Wednesday - 64° at 7 AM - Slept late - Beautiful day.  Deadheaded.  Transplanted the two Myrtle standards into bigger pots.  Brought down Freesia from top holding bed - dried them and put in storage.  
Wes went for top for garage table - cleared that off - threw away what old material we could and put on new top - Wes also bought drainpipe for cliff path and the path at well.  I planted more lettuce - picked couple heads going to seed.

1987 - Thursday - 59° at 6 AM - Cloudy - became fair late in day.
I went to Chris Clark's to cut shrubs for Propagation Workshop at Ballard Greenhouse - used the boxes - two of which Wes had made - returned home at 10:45 - Wes was working on stones at driveway entrance - Tibor helped move one big one - I picked up Helen Ross at 11:30 and drove to Waccabuc as guests of Millicent Sattler for luncheon - shopped Brunetti enroute home.  Wes still working on driveway entrance - reset Belgian Blocks - took out many of them behind new stones.  I filled two boxes of shrub cuttings - put two on North slope behind rocks - third under lights in upstairs bath


July 17

1983 - Sunday - 62° at 6:15 AM.  Fair, warm day, nice breeze, most of time.  To 8 o'clock Mass - to Marcus following.
I weeded and edged balance of road frontage above mailbox and covered it with chips.
To Billie's after lunch to meet her Grand-daughter Robin, husband Marshall and son Mathew. 
Watered some plants - took walk after dinner.

1984 - Tuesday - 62° at 6 AM - Fair. Thunderstorm at 2 AM - almost one-half inch - glad to have it. 
I worked at Ballard - lots of ladies thank goodness - spread topsoil and mulch.  Home at 1pm.
Wes had filled behind Bag Wall.  We moved ferns at one place to raise level.  He put bluestone path steps at road end - made steps of stone at road end. 
I put Corydalis Lutea plants on top of one wall section - bringing three down from holding bed.  Cut grass.  Beautiful clear evening: Ate first zucchini - first beans last night.

1985 - Wednesday - 60° at 6 AM - Cool - less humidity - a beautiful day
Wes worked on well/shed path - bringing down the soil to fill hollows.  After lunch he took down the beech behind the chestnut and removed stump.  Area there looks very good.  I transplanted doll's eye seedlings from bog to area under oak near cliff north path - put a couple seedlings in garden back steps - continued clearing ledge above cliff (east) off deck.

1986 - Thursday - 60° at 6 AM - Fair morning - cloudy afternoon.  Wes went to Mass, I prepared to work at Ballard Garden - had a good crew - Muriel, Ricky, Edith, Carol Schneider - finished spreading chips (10 bags) and deadheaded and trimmed.  I picked up Wes' leg medicine from Dr. Neligan's office - home for lunch.  Wes was edging cliff path with stones - he finished it after nap.  I brought down gravel to cover space between Sedum & flagstones - transplanted Emerald Gaiety from under hemlock to join others along cliff path.

1987 - Friday - 54° at 6:30 - Fair - beautiful day - sunny and warm but not bad humidity.  To Mass - picked up flowers from church.  Wes started digging second post hole at driveway entrance and found a couple of big stones. Worked all day - removed one big one finally with a little help from me and barred the second one away.  I deadheaded - cut grass - went to bank - area near Marcus in bad shape account Route 7 construction -  easier to go home via Miry Brook.
