July 18

1983 - Monday - 67° at 7 AM - Forgot to look before breakfast - ate on the deck. Sunny hot humid day - a little breeze helped.
To Danbury Appliance Repair - but Wes' razor couldn't be fixed. I shopped Finast and at the wholesale food warehouse - bought strawberries and blueberries. Home to cut grass - many weeds - and water everything. Azaleas on Wood Knoll were wilting. Read paper in afternoon heat.  Mannions came by in evening.

1984 - Wednesday - 68° at 6:45 - slept late - raining despite clear sky last night - cancelled plans to play golf - about 5/10 inch rain before ending at 4 pm.
To Danbury for toaster repair - fixed it - Fireplace Shop to inquire about Den Glass Enclosure only to find it opens Fri. and Saturday - Waldbaum's for groceries - home for lunch & nap. To Dr Neligan's at 2 pm, stopping at Reclamation enroute and Stop & Shop and over to Danbury Pharmacy on return. Wes to take a pill a day for blood pressure - return in a month to nurse for checking. Shower after dinner - trace

1985 - Thursday - 64 at 6:45 - Slept late - No Mass as Father on vacation. Beautiful morning & day, but became more humid in afternoon - sun warm not bad in shade.
Worked around place - Wes continued bringing soil down to well/shed path - putting cedar logs across. Used chipper to cut up beech twigs and leaves of tree took down yesterday. I deadheaded - transplanted lettuce - cleared a little more of cliff off deck - cut grass.

1986 - Friday - 68° at 6:30 - Cloudy - humid - mostly sunny and hot - forecast was for thunderstorms but none for us until sprinkles at night.
Prepared Standard Myrtle & Cimicifuga & Allium Drumstick for Muriel & Ricky who came at 9:30 to take them to Washington Depot show. I washed car. Wes worked on cliff path drains for an hour. Picked up Rosses at 11 & to Tappan Hill for lunch, then to Pocantico Hills Union Church to see the one Matisse and 9 Chagall stained glass windows. Home at 4:30 - Wes napped - I cut grass.

1987 - Saturday - 60° at 6 AM - Beautiful morning became much warmer and humid.
Gizella and I took Heliopsis - Daisies - Chrysanthemums left over from last week's wedding - plus greens to church & arranged flowers. Prepared for Eileen's visit - here at 11 with lots of bread and other goodies. Wes cooked steaks - very good. We took a short walk - she left about 2:30, dogs were very good. Snow more friendly. We had a nap - then wrapped bread for the freezer - watered perennial garden and rhododendron on south side. Admired fountains going both sides.


July 19

1983 - Tuesday - 67° at 6 AM - Sun coming up as we ate breakfast on the deck. Lovely bird calls - one was the Oriole, finally saw him.
I worked at Ballard in morning - home for lunch and nap, rain in thunderstorm mid-afternoon.
Wes had rested - balanced check book.
To Ruth Sharp's at 5 - had a gingerale! Rosses - Tracys & Billie there. Second night our beans for dinner.

1984 - Thursday. 58° at 6 AM. Fair - no Mass as Father on vacation. Beautiful day. Played golf 8-10:15 with Nancy and Dick Callahan. Home to cultivate - lunch - to Dr. Yanity at 1 PM - both had teeth cleaned. No cavities. Back home to do more cultivating - trimming. Wes brought down more of Vargas' soil to [[?]] area under stepping stones at Bog Wall and cover Eunonymous [[Euonymus]] roots
Carol Stoddard brought three friends at six p.m. to walk about garden.

1985 - Friday - 60° at 6:15. Fair - beautiful day - sun warm but a breeze in afternoon.
I shopped Stop & Shop - bought 2 skirts at Talbots, (one linen, one white) had a haircut - bank - meat from Brunetti's. Wes had worked on cliff path off deck - widening it - continued on it after lunch. I watered - cultivated - trimmed. Enjoyed sitting in Garden Room

1986 - Saturday - 69° at 6:30 - Cloudy - off and on sunny - very humid. Did a work wash. Wes finished drains on cliff path and dug pit for future pool along house/shed path. I brought down gravel for drip line of Solar - deadheaded.  Louise McKeon and Muriel Pedersen came to return my Myrtle Standard - won second at Washington Depot - also second for Allium drumstick and HM for Stokesia. To Rosses at 6:30 for dinner - the Kellers there - pleasant evening - home at 11 pm.  15/100 rain last night.

1987 - Sunday. 68° at 6 AM - Sun came over hill in a red ball at 6:14 - going to be H H H. It was - doesn't make you feel like working in the garden. To 8 o'clock Mass - for gasoline and bananas etc at Waldbaum's. To North Salem to look at a farm gate on Baxter Road - then to Route 35 to look at another - also took measurements at John Hartcorn's. Home for lunch & nap. Deadheaded - watered - Wes planned our gate - discussed possibilities. Quit early - not bad on deck
