July 26

1983 - Thursday - 60° at 6:30 - Foggy.  No Mass as Father on vacation.  Hot but a nice breeze.
I worked at Ballard 9-12.  Wes read papers and rested.
After lunch and nap I watered - ran the well down but watered most everything.  Put chips on Eileen's azalea - looks so good will spread chips over all that area.  Took walk to see Grouse house and up Bogus.  Picked strawberries for tomorrow's breakfast

1984 - Saturday - 59° at 6:30 - Cloudy.  Walked Boo.  Off and on cloudy - cleared in evening.
Did wash - changed bed - Walked Boo.
To Young's to inquire about chipper - will call on Tuesday - to Ridgefield Supply to ask about equipment sheds - forget them as have to have an order for four before they get them in - home for lunch - nap - picked up stones for Bog water channel - moved 3 ferns there cleared out weeds.  Picked up Billie Newell at 5:30 and went to the Tracy's cocktail party - Home at 8.  Eileen home from SF - will come tomorrow

1985 - Sunday - 58° at 6:15 - Fair - beautiful day.  To 8 o'clock Mass.  Hartcorns came after Mass for Fuller's Earth - he has spots of oil on flagging
Did a work wash.  Wes enlarged hole near shed to transplant Hemlock & discovered three huge stones.  Worked that spot all day finally was able to move one.  I brought 3 Christmas Ferns up from deer trail - planted them at huge rock along path to shed.  Freed Poly Pody from cliff edge off deck & added that to area.  To Jessups' cocktail party at 5:30.

1986 - Monday - 70° at 6:30 - cloudy.  Ate breakfast on deck.  Cloudy - warm, humid weather - a bad stretch.  Light shower in late afternoon.  Deadheaded.
To town - Brunetti and Stop & Shop.  Delay on Ridgebury Road account paving.  After lunch and nap transplanted 2 dwarf Hostas from edge of Garden Room to step garden - put Impatiens from dell walk in their place.  Went over cliff to cut small branches from maple spoiling view of pond.  Wes' hips & leg & forward a little better.  Spoke to Pat Neligan about stopping pills.

1987 - Tuesday - 69° at 7 AM.  Fair - beautiful day - sunny - warm - low humidity.
I prepared luncheon for Muriel Pedersen, Edith Meffley and Charlotte Crossby (Ballard Garden crew)
Wes swept walk and Garden Room - discovered deer had come in driveway - ate Day lilies and Phlox in Perennial Garden - Hosta and Solomon Seal - Ladies went to Garden Club meeting at Jane [[?Piloubet]] - I was first for Jacobinia - Wes dug one post hole and started the second - finished rough grading at well area.


July 29

1983 - Friday - 69° at 6 AM.  Sunny, hot and humid but a breeze - drying.
To Waldbaum's early - avoided crowds - stopped at Marcus.  Transplanted White Petunias from Dell Path (too dry) to Shade Garden - Killed slugs
Cut grass - decided to lower mower as needs it in shade and in sun its burned out anyway.  Put peat moss in soil at northeast day lily bed - watered Wood Knoll.  To Ruth Sharp's at 5 for a tonic

1984 - Sunday - 56° at 6:15 - Nice day = Sunny and breezy.  To 8 o'clock Mass.  Prepared for Eileen's visit.  Here at 11:30-2:30.  Heard about her interesting time in Los Angeles and San Francisco.  She brought us beautiful raspberries - we gave her beans.  Had nap after she left.
To Hemlock Hill Lake Association meeting on Insurance at [[?expere]] - no decision - another meeting next Sunday which we will miss.  Deadheaded wall garden -

1985 - Sunday - 58° at 6 AM.  Partly cloudy and cool in morning - cleared to a beautiful afternoon.
Worked around place all day - Wes dug big stones near shed area - got another one of these loose - but not out!  We moved a big stone from right of stair area - taking out a step and a few plants to do it - down to the base of the big rocks where the concrete birdbath is.  Wes reset the step and regarded.  I reset ferns and plants - cleared off cliff of compost & soil - pulled Virginia creeper from rocks by going down cliff path.

1986 - Tuesday - 72° at 6 AM.  Cloudy - humid - bad weather continues - sprinkles around noon - heard thunder at 4 pm - only sprinkles here - flooding in Westchester and NYC.
To Mass.  Deadheaded - cut south grass - rear & along road.  Wes brought down stones from North slope and cliff top (north slope) for proposed wall behind shade garden/bog walk.  Quit early account thunder.
Raccoon ate three tomatoes that were ripening!

1987 - Wednesday - 55° at 6 AM.  Cool night - good sleeping - Fair.  To Mass.  Wes dug the second hole for the driveway posts - luckily didn't hit any big stones.  I replanted the bean row - only few had come up - trimmed Myrtle and Rosemary Ring - Watered a few plants - deadheaded - killed Japanese Beetles.
Left at 11:45 for Tuckahoe - Rockwell Restaurant - where met Mary for lunch - returned home via Rosedale to buy a Bonsai pot for Chamysipris Herb from Memorial Garden.  Nap before dinner
