August 5

1983.  Friday - 70° at 6 AM.  Put big fan on as upstairs stuffy.  Mostly cloudy day - looked like rain but none - terrible weather.  To Village Bank to turn over 6 months certificate, interest 9.8% instead of 8.4
To Dr. Puckner at 11.30 (1 1/2 hrs via Route 100) still to take Hiprex and a new stomach pill - encouragement for "down the road".  Stopped at [[?Murcoot]] Park to eat - not a good picnic spot.  To Pharmacy to have prescriptions filled.  Home for nap.  Watered - picked beans, zucchini & strawberries.

1984 - Sunday - 66° at 6 AM.  Cloudy - Packed- locked up house - windows - made lunch.  Left at 8:45 - Routes 84 - 86 - Mass. Turnpike - 495 to 95 to Portsmouth N.H. - arrived there at 1:30 - Holiday Inn- nap
Toured Historic Area - Wentworth Gardner House - Strawbery Banke - Prescott Park where we admired the beautiful flowers - Fish dinner at Pier II - Back to Holiday Inn - with a tour of city enroute.  Pretty town.

1985 - Monday - 60° at 6:30 - Fair - Warm day - nights have been cool & breezy.
Wes dug up second - and taller - hemlock from Glade Path - with difficulty we moved it to shed/well path and watered it in well as the ball was disturbed.
I planted all but one of the plants brought down from W77, finding it difficult to find places because the annuals are still blooming.  Cut the grass - did some watering.
Wes ordered top soil for delivery tomorrow - he picked up more manure at Jessup's.  Bit came to Eileen's [[?]] for a visit. 

1986 - Tuesday - 58° at 6:30 - didn't look at 6 AM.  Sun came over the hill about 6:30 here.  Warmer and more humid day but still beautiful.  To Mass. 25th Anniversary celebration at Mass of Marcus and Fatiema [[?Var]]
Wes moved huge stone at shed area - slid it under the walk - started regrading area.  I split Potentilla Trifurcata from wall garden - planted many on West steps and one on step garden top.  Deadheaded - cultivated. Heard Katydids at night. 

1987 - Wednesday - 69° at 6 AM.  Warm, humid morning.  To Mass.  I picked up Helen & went to Lucie Bowie's to plan for September Garden Club Meeting.  We are co-hostesses - home at 11:45.  Wes had moved large stones each side of driveway.  After lunch & nap I mowed upper grass - in bad shape account moles.  Rain started - We painted new pegboard in garage - luckily had just enough paint and a roller.


August 6

1983 - Saturday - 70° - Hazy - temperature not as high as past days but humidity terrible.  Thunder around in afternoon but no rain until 6:30 when we were so glad to have a quarter inch.
I stopped in Bethel for tomorrow's luncheon and made blueberry tart - cooked chicken and peaches.  We cleaned Kitchen, den and shop Johnny - then blazed a path down to wild azaleas over cliff - returned after lunch to cut logs here.  I swept side terrace and front walk - deadheaded and watered.  Stayed up to see Tucker Tailor at 11:30 as sound was gone Sunday night.

1984 - Monday. Breakfast at Holiday Inn Portsmouth, N.H - Fair - Hot day - used air conditioning.  Route 1 (part of way) and 95 to Portland - Brunswick - Rockland - Camden - Belfast (Route 3) on to Ellsworth - then to Acadian National Park - Northeast Harbor - Asticou Inn, arriving at 3:30 PM.  Had stopped at LL Bean, Freeport, where Wes bought new jacket - pants & shirt - At Asticou in Topsider #3.  Nap 
Big dinner at 7 pm - Read maps - Evening cool - good sleeping

1985 - Tuesday - 58° at 6 AM - Sun coming up later.  Beautiful day.  To Mass.  I worked at Ballard in the morning, stopping for bird food enroute and Stop & Shop and at Candle Shop for a wicker chair for upstairs bath.  Wes received delivery of 7 yards of topsoil from Ciofeletti.  He filled holes where hemlock were on glen path. 
After lunch we watered, cultivated, put daylily in sun garden - The last of the W77 plants bought Sunday.  Louise McKeon came by  with her Dutch Bulb order.  Put deck furniture in Garden Room for tomorrow's visit Wes' W. P. friends

1986 - Wednesday- warm, humid day - rain predicted, but only a few drops here.  Wes moved stones (unearthed at shed when moving the big stone yesterday) to new wall area off dell walk.  I did wash, ironed, deadheaded.  Took two bedroom blue rugs to Ziegler for cleaning.  Left tablecloth at Chinese Laundry - to bank - to Flight of the Navigator" at North Street Shopping Plaza theatre - Disney film of Boy on Space Ship.  Home for nap - did crossword - cool on deck in evening

1987 - Thursday.  62° at 6 AM.  Raining.  There had been heavy rain during night - rain gauge isn't up - over an inch at least. 
Wes took car for servicing the early 7500 servicing - we have 6200 miles - he shopped Meekers for peg board hardware - new ice container (old one broken) left shoes at shoemaker - $23 for halfsoles & heels!  I wrote letters - deadheaded - we rehung garage & garden articles on peg board - looks good - checked propagation boxes - cuttings look good but didn't pull any.
