August 21 

1983 - Sunday - 62° at 6 AM - Clear - less humidity beautiful day if you like it warm and dry. 
To 8 o'clock Mass.  Transplanted Streptocarpus and Pink African Violet.  Dug up Dwarf Heather and potted that - all preparatory to the Garden Club show Sept 16th.
Went down over cliff to admire Hepatica and Maindenhair Ferns - brought up a deciduous fern uprooted in path and a small Hepatica, planted them on Wood Knoll.  Had dinner at 1 pm - nap - to Tracy's for drink at 5.  Had watered gardens

1984 - Tuesday - 48° at 6 AM - Fair - Heavy mist on pond.  Picked strawberries for breakfast cereal.  No Mass as I left for Ballard Park work at 7:30.  Mulch on garden beds there making the work easier - home at noon after a stop at Stop & Shop for bananas.  Wes had continued work on spreading topsoil on North side - started bringing some down to South side to level future garden terrace.  We moved moss and bleeding heart from where it was in the way to path edges.  I watered yesterday's transplants in shade garden.
To Ruth Sharp's at 5 pm for a drink - Rosses there.

1985 - Wednesday - 60° at 6:30 - Cloudy - a bad run of weather - especially no rain which we need.  Muriel Pedersen picked me up at 9 AM & we went to White Flower Farm - ordered Lycoris for forcing by BG Club.  Bought Coreopsis Goldfink & Caryopteris x clandonensis.  Stopped at MacDonalds for "Big Mac" - brought one home for Wes who had transplanted the Emerald Gaiety from West Bank to new area near well.  He [[?grubbed]] out the wild flower side - same area.  Discovered car had flat in front left tire - Wes changed & had it repaired (nail) while I shopped Waldbaums for chicken - cooked it for weekend guests.  Wes moved 3 blueberries to road.

1986 - Thursday - 63° at 6:15 - Cloudy - Rain at 4:30 - continued all evening.
Wes went to Mass.  I prepared for work at Ballard.  Had a good crew - trimmed, weeded - few deadheads.  Home at 12:30.  Wes had dug up big stones on North slope and continued work on wall behind shade garden.  I moved two Foamflower from north side of well/shed walk to Garden Room - helped Wes with one big stone.  Phoned Bit in evening - she is well.

1987 - Friday - 54° at 6:15 - Fair beautiful day.  To Mass.  Wes went to Gregory Saw Mill to order lumber for fence continuation - deliver Wednesday.  He started work on path to holding bed - will gravel up to steps.  Brought Wright wood chips to half of new garden at well.  We transplanted two Leucothoe from behind shade garden to well area - moved one put in yesterday and rearranged ferns and hosta there.  I cut grass - most of north grass burned out and quite damaged from ground moles.  Asked Gizella for flowers for church to give Louise - Marigolds and Tansy. - Our Rudbeckia.


August 22

1983 - Monday - 54° at 6:30 - Cold night - clear - became cloudy - looked like thunderstorm but none here.  Terribly dry.
I worked at Ballard with Madeline for an hour - Shopped Stop & Shop following.  Wes investigated changing first part of cliff path - we cut and chipped branches there.
After lunch and nap cleaned roots and stones from in front of cliff and transplanted Asclepias there.

1984 - Wednesday - 54° at 6 AM - Fair - Fog over pond - Sun isn't over the hill - rises at 6:30.
Wes moved more topsoil to South future "garden room" stripped sod from proposed planting bed in front of Pinus Flexilis.  I went with Gizella down Bogus Road into woods and brought back Rattlesnake Plantain and 2 small Christmas Ferns - planted them along Bog Path, also brought ferns back from deer train to bank of water course in Bog Garden.  Watered Wood Knoll - moved Alumroot.

1985 - Thursday - 57° at 7 AM - Cloudy - then partly sunny - good temperature.  I made carrot soup for Sunday.  Wes worked in South Glade (formerly Bog) thinning out trees and brush.  Used new Stihl saw for first time.  Found another "Dolls Eye".  I watered, cultivated, cut off sucker roots on stumps on North Ridge.  Wes lowered the jet fountain - just over the duck's head - doesn't splash so much.  Wes sprayed laurel, Azaleas, rhododendron with Ferbam.  Mary phoned her purse was snatched in an elevator yesterday - later the purse was found with the money of course.

1986 - Friday - 60° at 7 AM - Fair - .72 in rain gauge - its been a rainy summer.  It was a beautiful day, first in a long time - sunny & cool.  Did a work wash - went to bank, Marcus & Waldbaum.  Wes finished stone wall behind shade garden and spent rest of time bringing down dirt to fill the front of the wall.  I cut grass - trimmed tree over garden room & near well where driller's equipment broke it - we now have a pile of brush on upper road for the Yardkeeper to take to dump.

1987 - Saturday - 66° at 7 AM - Partly cloudy - some light sprinkles - not the hoped for thunderstorm forecast.  Louise McKeon came for church flowers picked yesterday.  Wes put gravel on path to holding bed.  Stripped sod from part of south front where fence will go - piled it by shed to make loam.  Moved five Hosta Sieboldiana from shade garden to new bed near well.  I made cookies - the last of David's chocolate - and Tavern Bars in morning.
Wes has a sore throat - chest cough.
