August 25

1983 - Thursday - 54° at 6:30 - Overslept - Fair 
To Mass.  I worked at Ballard 9-12 - only Carol Nelson joined.  Shopped Grand Central and stopped at bank.  Wes changed hose line on South side - now have a longer 5/8 line to start.  Made better saucers around azaleas and small trees on Wood Knoll.  After lunch Wes worked on cliff path - widening one curve.  I watered rhododendrons and vegetables - picked beans, cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes.

1984 - Saturday - 58° at 6:30.  Fair, beautiful day.  I did some housework while Wes put on fertilizer and lime on North slope - raked out a lot of gravel.  I watered tomatoes and beans - checked on new transplants and watered as needed.  Moved the Striped Wintergreen in the way of expected equipment shed.  Made list of perennials to be moved.

1985 - Sunday - 62° at 6 AM and raining.  35/100 before 8 AM.  Off and on rain - light - all day.  To 8 o'clock Mass.  Prepared luncheon for Morrisons.  Elizabeth Hull here 12:45 to 4.  Everything went well - no garden tour of course - just looking from inside.  Forgot to serve the Brie as no "formal" sit down cocktail time.  Cleaned up - took nap - relaxed with papers in evening.  Watched "The Sting" on TV.

1986 - Monday - 50° at 6:30.  Clear.  Sun coming over the hill at 6:50, beautiful day.  I worked at Ballard with the crew - had the garden all trimmed for the meeting tomorrow.  Wes spread soil on rutted lawn above mailbox.  After lunch I cut grass - we planted the Woodruff Eileen brought up yesterday on the wall top.  Wes disconnected the pool pump and took it to Gust's shop to make cover.  Transplanted one of the Christmas ferns from new pool area to new wall.

1987 - Tuesday - 47° at 7AM.  Wes had another bad night coughing.  Fair.  I made lunch sandwiches - prepared basket of flowers - dahlia and tomatoes for Garden Club meeting held in park.  Didn't win a first - HM and thirds.  Wes worked on East Path of North slope - graded it and had gravel placed by day end.  I cut grass in afternoon - watered viburnums - we need rain badly - replanted three of Hosta area near wall to make circle around Japanese maple.  Fed the Hosta eaten by deer.


August 26

1983 - Friday - 60° at 6:30.  Cool night.  Warm.  Humid day until nice breeze in evening.  Wes picked up two pill prescriptions renewed - shopped Finast and Marcus - bought new bluejeans at Army Navy.  I did a wash - picked beans - cucumbers - watered. 
After lunch went over cliff - cleaned up one section near big rocks.  Lots of them - that won't identify place!   Cleared pond edge at right - on return to deck looks to us that we have the view of the pond we want.  Cut grass.

1984 - Sunday - 54° at 6:30.  Fair, beautiful day.  Getting dry.  To 8 o'clock Mass, Marcues afterwards for milk -made a coffeecake.  Wes raked the North slope - got a lot of stones out - took them to future shed location and fixed cliff path - widening it - moved blueberry bushes there.  I watered - brought up four Christmas Ferns for big rock - weeded in bog garden.
To Nancy Carroll's birthday party at 7 P. - a sit down buffet for 22 people.

1985 - Monday, 72° at 6:45.  Heavy rain during night - 2.00, including yesterday's - Great
Slow, relaxing morning in light rain.  another 1/10.  Wes paid the $10.00 to Nutmeg they forgot to charge for the Stihl saw.  I went to Dr. Yanity - had upper left molar refilled - Shopped Stop & Shop - Bank - Hardware store can't get refill for Eileen's vacuum which broke.  After lunch & nap Wes continued wedging two huge rocks upright west of house/shed path.  I picked beans & tomatoes, deadheaded lots of snapdragons down in heavy rain - staked them and Cleome which is so tall a few bent over.  More rain after dinner.

1986 - Tuesday - 60° at 8:15 after breakfast - first time after Mass.  Beautiful day - Few house chores then picked up Helen at 11:30 and on to Ballard for Ridgefield Garden Club meeting.  I was one of the judges - not many entries.  Sally Moss demonstrated line arrangements.  Home at 3:15.  Wes finished grading and putting top soil on area above mailbox and started stripping sod from around tree at entrance of driveway preparatory to moving the juniper from flower bed - put sod behind shade garden.

1987 - Wednesday - 50° at 6:30 - Fair, cool.  Some clouds in late afternoon.
Transplanted another Leucothoe from back of Garden Room to new area at well.  Lumber delivered by Gregory for fence.  Wes cut posts and had 8 placed by end of day - 3 to go.  I returned Reeboks to G. Fox didn't have larger size.  GW Highway still closed to thru traffic.  Swept Garden Room - watered blueberry bushes preparatory to moving behind new fence.  Transplanted Coral Day lily from perennial to spot off Solar - one pink one in its place.  Joe Kellar came to look at [[?spading]] job at front - will do after Labor Day.
