September 12 

1983 - Monday - 66° at 6:45 - Slept late - Cloudy all day - thunderstorm after 6 PM -
Wrote Joan and Bit - Mailed lots of checks for contributions - To town - bank - reclamation and Stop & Shop. 
Watered everything - picked beans, zucchini and cucumber - gave latter to Judy Judson -
Made meatballs - Wes worked in shop.  

1984 - Wednesday - 61° at 6:30 - Clear - Shower in night - not wet under trees - not enough to make any mark in rain gauge - too bad.  Watered North grass several times - as well as other plants.  Wes used up all stain on Equipment Shed.  I put peat moss in Triangle garden - moved Siberian Iris from there to new Sun garden.  Dug up 2 Rhododendron around Big Dead Beech - moved them into Garden Room - 
Called Wright on removing that tree.  Mike came to put Trim around roof edging of Equipment Shed - 5-7 pm.

1985 - Thursday - 44° at 6 AM - Clear - Cool - some beautiful clouds in afternoon.  To mass. 
Left at 9:30 for bank - Washington. Ct. for a visit (look over) of Indian Archaeological Institute as a proposal for family visit - Boscobel is better - on to Litchfield Inn for Texaco Retiree luncheon - home at 3:30 for a nap - Put plastic covers on tomatoes - brought in tender plants against frost reported for spots.  
Made zucchini soup for supper.  Turned on heat in house 

1986 - Friday - 70° at 7 AM.  Cloudy - looked like rain but none - very humid and warm until late afternoon when cool breeze came - someone had rain
I went to town - shopped Brunetti - Cheese Shop & Stop & Shop - then prepared dinner for guests.  Wes helped clean house - watered new grass - to Mr Gust to pick up frog & leaf for pool number One and connected it - looks good.  Nancy Carroll - Frank Tracy, Alex and Helen here at six good evening - We left dishes & went to bed at 10:30

1987 - Saturday - 62° at 7 AM - Light rain off and on during day - not much accumulation.  We hope the Diazonan gets watered in.
After house chores to Danbury Fair Mall - no Isotoner gloves at G fox - bought note paper & hangars at Laura Ashley for girls birthdays.  Wes bought socks at Fox.  After nap I made cookies & Ratatouille
Wes straightened up his shop.  Couldn't complete crossword.  No outdoor work - had our walking exercise at Mall. When changed sheets in morning, put electric blanket on bed.  Paid Federal taxes.


September 13
 
1983 - Tuesday - 56° at 6:45 - 28/100 in rain gauge - glad to have it.  No mass as going to Submarine Base at Groton - Texaco Retirees Club.  Left at 8:30 for Norwalk - met Bill Kalnay at Howard Johnson's there (Exit 16 Conn. tpk)
Picked up Al Wagner - Arrived Groton 11:15 - luncheon - bus tour - movie - Museum of Memorabilia and models - talk by Texaco man on natural gas - Good trip back - home at 6:15 - Cloudy cool day - few sprinkles - trace in rain gauge.  Soup for supper

1984 - Thursday - 50° at 6 AM - Beautiful pink sky at sunrise. Better sleeping. 
To Mass.  Wes prepared holes for Azaleas to be moved under big dead beech - had to change location to front position account ledge - moved them - watered most transplants as well as new grass.  Wes stained the ramp of Equipment Shed.  I brought in four Christmas ferns from deer trail to farmer Wood Knoll upper walk.  Diane Hurricane finally came onto land at Wilmington, N.C.

1985 - Friday - 42° at 7 AM - Fair - beautiful fall day needed sweaters for outdoors and put on heat for breakfast Wes finished drain work and path outline and gravel at pump.  I went to bank and on to Waldbaum's - lots of people.  Brought in big Jade plant. 
Pulled up more Cleome - Put leaf mulch, which Wes had stocked along glade Path, on Leucothoe bank - also some around Clethra - dug up some Solomon Seal roots 
Decided not to cover tomatoes again against frost. 
Put electric blanket on bed.

1986 - Saturday - 52° at AM - Clear- beautiful day.  Did all dishes from last night's party - washed table cloths and napkins.  To Pinchbeck for peat and Orthenex for the rhododendrons - small white Streptocarpus and new ivy for livingroom mantel - mailed 3rd payment Federal Income Taxes.  After lunch watered grass - planted single peony (pink) Chris Clark gave me in new perennial bed.  Moved the final 3 day lilies from back triangle bed.  Wes started filling in around new pool.

1987 - Sunday - 62° at 6 AM - Light rain - continued all day - heavy at times - We went for a walk during a break in late afternoon and there was 2 1/4 inches then. 
To 8 o'clock Mass.  I made lemon cookies - good tasting but not suitable for Garden Club meeting.  Read papers - worked on Sunday crossword and completed it!  Main reason for success was it covered some Amendments to Constitution which we had in our dictionary.
