September 18

1983 - Sunday - 52° at 6 AM.  Fog in early A.M.  Cleared to a beautiful day.  To 8 o'clock Mass.
Worked at big rock North End - moving stone from off path to central position.  I deadheaded wall garden - picked off leaves - put sedum and sempervivum into new stone backing cracks.  After lunch we transplanted Cimicifuga from perennial garden to back of shade garden - moved five ferns to North Rock Cliff.  Cut grass.

1984 - Tuesday - 42° at 6 AM.  Fog over pond.  Fair beautiful day.  To Mass.  Roads and parking lots at church being blacktopped. 
I worked at Ballard in morning - Hatsy Hart painting the fence - Muriel Pedersen, Bobbie Hoffman, and I weeded, trimmed, transplanted daylilies and filipendula
Wes continued clearing around shed - moved the kindling - I watered south side transplants - used house water on new grass on North slope - picked beans and strawberries & tomatoes.  Crops slowing down.

1985 - Wednesday - 49° at 6:30.  Fair, beautiful day.  Relaxing day - didn't have to go out until evening. 
Wes, after shop time, cut the three small trees along Sofia that had the dead grapevine on them - went over cliff and cut dead trees lying across rocks.  I watered transplants - cut grass first time with the Lawnboy set down - seems too close, had to rake - went to holding bed & cut there - Wes took down dead dogwood - cut down half dead beech over cliff at birdfeeder - pulled it by rope so it fell tip top - to North Ridgefield Assoc.  Meeting at 8 pm - signed petition to change CDD zone to 3 acre residential.

1986 - Thursday - 43° at 6 AM.  Clear morning.  Clouded up in afternoon.  To Mass.  Took papers & bottles to Reclamation - shopped for groceries, liquor - Youngs for fertilizer, lime and potting soil - on to North Salem Herb Fair for lunch - home for nap - out to cut grass - Wes finished placing remaining soil above mailbox.  We added peat, topsoil, lime and fertilizer [[strikethrough]] bed [[/strikethrough]] to triangle bed and dug it in - moved the 5 Santolina to edge of Asclepias bed.

1987 - [[strikethrough]] Saturday - 54° at 7 AM - Cloudy - dreary. 8/10 inch in rain gauge. [[/strikethrough]] Thursday, Sept 17th - light rain - Stopped enough to think of going to Herb Fair for lunch - despite rainy weather lots of people there - moved a few more perennials in garden, inspected for deer damage - believe deer coming up front cliff.
Wes had gone to Meekers & Pharmacy for blood pressure pills - Dr. Neligan away - no doctor available to authorize renewal - has to go back to Pharmacy Friday.


September 19

1983 - Monday - 62° at 6:30.  Fair - hot and humid day.  90 degrees in afternoon.  Dry wind -
With Gizela took flowers from church to Louise - she wanted to dry the celosea.  We transplanted the Varga's and our Pieris Japonica - and Eileen's white azalea to back of perennial garden - digging out the Heliposis - Ciuccoli came to repair the spreader switch - took 2 of the Heliopses - said would return for two others.  Watered - just reached second white pine when pump shut off - glad to have done so much.

1984 - Wednesday - 44° at 7 AM.  Slept an hour later - felt good.  Fair.  Our last day lily out along path outside Solar.  Beautiful sunny day - we want rain it is so dry.
Wes moved wood pile at new shed - cleaned up that area.  We transplanted Birds Nest Spruce from Wall garden to spot near garage entrance - digging up and throwing away purple rhododendron. I watered all transplants and new grass on North slope.

1985 - Thursday - 56° at 6:15.  Dark at breakfast time.  Later warm, sunny day - back to summer - dry.  To Mass.  Wes had shop time - then over the cliff to cut old trees and brush lying on rocks & ground. I checked Mother Fern and Confederate Jasmine for the Darien show - watered Lamium over cliff - transplanted Solomon Seal off House/shed walk - cleaned off rock there with a white vein.  To Muriel Pedersen's at 1:30 with plants - on to Lockwood - Mathews Mansion, Norwalk - entered my two and Hawsie Nash's and Chris Clark's ferns - Home at 4:15. Admired Wes' clearing over cliff.  Plant light stand delivered at 8 pm by Susi Riveto of Kent - no lights yet.

1986 - Friday - 58° at 7 AM. Cloudy.  Light shower overnight - barely measurable.  Sun (if we saw it) 6:40 to 6:58 - cleared in afternoon & sun did come out.
Wes went several times to Danbury Block for blocks to make a junction box for the new pool.  He worked on the big rocks on North Slope.  I watered - transplanted more perennials into new bed - made Tavern Bar Cookies.
To Waccabuc at 6:30 - guests of Sattlers for seafood buffet - Tempanellis and Billie Newell there.

1987 - Saturday - 54° at 7 AM.  Cloudy.  8/10 in rain.  Light mist - not enough to stop working.  Saw a deer off deck - so fenced in area below cliff from location off Solar to compost.  Pulled leaf mold to bare one cliff rock - used that in transplanting rhubarb - day lilies - lythrum. 
To Wooster Village Market for ground round for Sunday's meatloaf - Marcus for milk & eggs.  Worked outdoors after lunch also, but not dry enough to cut grass.  Picked up huge amount of oak leaf clusters.  Put heat on - damp & cold.
