September 24

1983 - Saturday - 40° at 7 AM - Slept late - Beautiful day Fog rising form pond - cool all day but sum warm.  Did work. With Gizela arranged flowers at church.  Wes went to Danbury to have razor repaired.  
Lunch - nap - moved wood chips to cover holes in South side where had moved Pieris.  Took flat stone from cliff edge to Bog Garden path (no bog now) uncovered big rock there - To Rosses at 5:15 for cocktail party.  View beautiful

1984 - Monday - 65° at 6:30 - Light shower at 5 AM - Not measurable - dry under trees but maybe helped grass.  J&B Plumbing/Heating was to come, but was delayed until 3 PM - then just went over the work to be done.
Wes bought 2 flagstones - one for under St. Francis bird bath - the other for the well drain cock at the Shed
I had a haircut and shopped Stop & Shop.
We watered - I cut south grass - in late afternoon we watered the grass on the North Slope.

1985 - Tuesday - 63° at 6AM.  Raining - so glad - had .42 inch by afternoon - not the couple inches we need but welcome.  To Mass.  Lazy morning for me, catching up on papers - Wes in shop.  I went to Garden Club meeting at Marjorie Reed's, picking  up Helen on the way.  Speaker Torrey Cooke's sister on roadside flowers & arrangements.  Home at 5 o'clock.

1986 - Wednesday.  64° at 7 AM - Dark - Cloudy - 1/2 in rain gauge.  Warm, very humid - cleared in afternoon. Various house chores in morning - washed hair - Wes worked in shop in morning.  In afternoon he worked on rocks on North Slope - brought topsoil to fill holes.  I went to Garden Club meeting at Louise McKeon's - (Sally Taylor on Shrubs) won second for miniature rose - home at 4:45 pm  

1987 - Thursday - 55° at 6:30 - Fair.
I worked at Ballard in morning - we finished transplanting, (adding soil & sand) the Chrysogonum beds.  Shopped Brunetti enroute home.  Wes added 2 foot wire to deer fence.  After lunch & nap I cut grass.  We planted Scilla Siberica around one Rhodo Carolina taking out a lot of stones around the shrub.  Also put Peeping Tom Narcissus and Leucojum The Giant at new area near well.


September 25

1983 - Sunday - 39° at 6:30.  Fog over pond.  Cool beautiful day.  To 8 o'clock Mass.  Church flowers had collapsed, but yesterday's wedding flowers left after all.
Made cookies for Tuesday's Garden Club meeting.  Wes worked in shop.  After lunch and nap walked up to Scodon Neighborhood Watch block party - lot of people & children.  Home at 3:30 - moved stones along road at Bog Garden end Wes worked on stones for path.  Moved a Carberry out of path.

1984 - Tuesday - 62° at 6:15 - Foggy.  Warm night but slept well.  Warm muggy day.  No Mass as I worked at Ballard - did transplanting - stopped at bank enroute home.  Jennings put in 2 baseboard heaters in living room and one wall convector in kitchen - not connected of course yet.  Dutch Bulbs arrived and I planted some in garden room and the crocus along path.  Wes made stone edging for Wood Knoll path - Watered north grass.

1985 - Wednesday - 52° at 6:45 - Fair - beautiful day.  Glad to see everything wet.  Wes had shop time while I shopped Waldbaum's and bank.  Tempanelli's came to look at our compost arrangement.  I made Eggplant Lasagna and Stuffed Chicken Breasts for family visit.  Cut grass - mole devastating North grass - even went into wall garden.  Wes worked on path to Holding Bed.  Hurricane Gloria off Carolina coast.  More babies pulled from wreckage of Mexican Hospital after earthquake.  Major TV came to check antenna rotor - it worked for him after couple tries - fixed set so we can get Channel 20 on UHF.

1986 - Thursday - 58° at 6 AM.  Beautiful sunrise - only a so-so day however.
To Mass.  House chores.  To Ridgefield Hardware for new bulb for plant light - over $16.00 for 2 bulbs!  We were shocked.  Groceries at Stop & Shop - Red Wine - birthday cards - home to cut grass - wet and very long.  Wes continued work on North Slope and I moved more perennials.

1987 - Friday - 45° at 6 AM - Dark - Fair when it grew light.  Cool breeze - warm sun - beautiful fall day.  To Mass.
Wes turned over compost - he rolled lawn to compact grass of mole runs.  Will redo as no water in roller.  I did work wash - made leek & potato soup with leeks Edith Meffley gave me.  Truck with seafood and meat from Stamford - bought box each Scallops & stuffed flounder.  Planted more bulbs.  Discussed placement of deer fence along new wood fence.  Wes has Mary Luke plan for porch extension to check over.
